but serioiusly, i dont know much about the performance characteristics of biodesal, is there any reason a biodiesel engine cant be tuned for a production sports car application?

Well, why not. we have 40% soybean product in the new Mustang seat cushon material. Wonder if this bio-diesel smells like french fries when it rips by on the track going 150 mph?! I'd get one if it's a torq monster like the new F-450.

As a side note, Audi is pretty successful campaining it's turbo diesel in the LeMans Series.

I think bio-diesel is sweet. I'm all for it. Even if there was a reason for it not to be used in sports-car applications, it's uses elsewhere are endless. Think of semi's alone. I'd much rather make American farmers rich than the Saudi's.

To bad there isn't enough farmland in the US to cover our fuel needs. We'd have to subjugate the rest of the world and force them to produce the sort of biomass it would take to cover our energy needs.

While I agree to a point, there is an abundance of untapped resource for producing bio-fuels here in the US.
Bio-fuels (bio-deisel as well as ethanol) can be produced from any material which can be 'fermented' (for lack of a better way to put it) to produce an alcohol based liquid. This means that all the excess materials from the normal farming processes can be used (corn or wheat residues, cover crops planted between crop plantings, even the dust residues from the storage bins). Additionally, sea plants can also be used. Thus, the plants causing problems in California (kelp?) growing out of control on the sea floor along the coast could be harvested in huge quantities and used to produce bio-fuels. Kelp farms could be opened dedicated to bio-fuel production. Lastly, there is a great deal of farmland in the US that goes un-used, subsidies paid to the farmers using your tax money (and mine) so they dont grow anything. Simply removing these subsidies will save several hundred million in tax money every year as well as encourage the farmers to start farming again, producing crops that would be specifically directed at producing bio-fuels, and without requiring the redirecting the products of farms that are presently producing food crops.
There will have to be some sort of process put in place to protect/maintain the food supplies (because it has to be seen as unacceptable to trade off food for fuel, starving some people just so others can drive their nice shiny cars) but there should be resources enough to maintain the present food supply as well as begin producing enough bio-fuels to reduce our oil conumption to the point were it can be supplied by our own reserves.

I still rather see farmers get money rather than some people who just got lucky and think they are kings. It is about time the hard workers get paid their dues.

biodiesel is definately a great option, as well as ethanol. The only problem right now, is people are stubborn and dont feel like spending the money on it.
