Thumbs up....PASSPORT........

Thumbs down V1 (mainly because they false so much that all the arrows and beeps won't mean a thing)....plus, V1s cost about $100 more than the Passport.

BTW....I live in Cincinnati where both detectors are made....don't care one way or another who you buy one from.

Thank you RottenRonny for that post. Being a professional speeder myself, I have found that the best "get out of ticket free" for me is being married to the County Attorney!

I forgot, I was going to order a plate Arizona plate that said HIOFICR but it was taken. I was only going to get it because I am very friendly!

I have the passport 8500 x50 and it's saved me numerous times. Never failed me yet. I searched the internet for different reviews and it came out on top every time. You can't go wrong so why spend another 100.00 if you don't get any better service?

I"m getting the passport 8500 and saving a few bucks, unless someone tells me it's failed them which hasn't happened yet.

my passport 8500 (not even x50) has saved my butt several times and I saved $200 over a V1. I'm sure the 8500 x50 must be even better.

Any suggestions for a good radar detector in a convertible so it won't be so noticed as easily but still get the job done? This engine is way too smooth and makes it so easy to speed.

AHH don't do it!!!

i also read all of the reviews that say the passport is better. Still didn't buy one because:

All of my friends here (car people) either have the passport, or the V1... kind of funny to watch them all drive together because the cars with the V1s pick up signal WAAAAAAAY before the cars with the passport.

but whatever floats your boat i guess

Having a comparison in real life to base them on, i say V1. plus i LOVE being able to tell which direction the cop is coming from.

[Rant]Another what is the best Early Ticket Warning Device thread huh? How about not being a jackas-s on the road :nono: and do the speed limit or take what you have comming to you if you decide to violate the law? I HAVE stopped people with Passports, Valetines, Cobras and just about every other darn waste of money... If I want to get you speeding... I'm not going to sit in the median blasting away... I'm estimating your speed visually... which most cops are very good at... and when I decide you are over my limit... I zap you. By the time your detector chirps I know your speed and when I see the nose of your car dive or your brake lights instantly light up, I know I've got a keeper. Why a keeper you ask. If you want to try to cheat the system.... I'm going to show you it doesn't pay to cheat. I let more far people go for speeding than I write as long as they are respectful and honest.

Best policy for not getting ticketed... don't speed... if you're going to speed... apologize for putting the office/deputy/trooper's life at risk while he stands in traffic talking to you. More cops are killed each year by being struck by vehicles than die from being shot. If ticketed, thank the officer/deputy/trooper and then plea not guilty and ask the DA if it would be possible to plea to a lesser charge.

Radar detectors are like traffic lawyers... useless. Save your money for something more usefull and fun.[/Rant]

You might want to take a look here regarding laser/radar jammers.......

http://www.radarbusters.com/support/jammers/Default.asp

Regarding Valentine......look about 3/4s down on the page for "What's up with Valentine?" on this link.....

http://www.radartest.com/article.asp?articleID=6500

I live in Cincinnati where both the Escort and V1 are made. There was a huge feud between Mike Valentine and Escort managment several years ago that resulted in Mike Valentine being fired by Escort (at the time called Cincinnati Microwave).

Rumors around here are that Valentine is in financial trouble. It's well known that Mike Valentine is a huge ego-maniac. Aside from that, he always feuds with every test done by independent companies that don't declare the V1 the winner....whether deserved or not. There are also claims that a C&D tester is on the Valentine payroll (which is the real reason C&D declares the V1 winner in all of their tests).

Not to say they don't make a good product. I own both...an Escort 8500 and a V1 (mounted in two separate cars). I much prefer the Escort. If I hadn't invested so much money for the V1, I'd have two Escorts.

Yeah, people sure are cheating the system by using a legal device to aid them. I'm sure off duty you've never gone over the limit.

Well, then stay in your car. The reason most people don't admit to guilt is because most cops won't do a thing.

Trooper4985,

Given that speeding is not that high on the list of CAUSES of accidents, why don't police spend more time enforcing the things that do casuse the accidents in the first place? You know, failure to yield, running red lights, following too close, illegal passing, driving slow in the fast lanes, not paying attention (cell phone, makeup, news paper, etc...). I don't know how many times I have seen cops driving donw one of the local main controlled access roads (speed limit 60 mph). If they have the radar on, they are running a few mph UNDER the limit. After hours when they are going home, they are running 85 and the radar is off. Strange how certain times of day they are always hauling hiney with the radar off and other times they are Jonny Slow with the radar hot...

Oh, wait! Could it be because it is a VERY nice source of revenue? And speeding is the absolutely easiest thing to "enforce"??? There are towns where 80% of the city revenue is from traffic citations. Strange. No? And do you REALLY think they set speed limits and enforcement practices to protect the public, or to protect their bottom line?

graphicsguy,

You might want to take what RadarTest says about the V1 with a grain of salt. It is pretty obvious that HE is pretty biased against the V1, and at the very least he has some personal issues with the company (not saying right or wrong because I simply don't know).

You said you had false alarms all the time with the V1. Did you have it in advanced logic mode? If you only had it in logic more or no processing mode, you will get tons of falses. With mine in AL, I almost never get false alarms around town. There ARE a few areas that will always set it off, but there are a lot less of them with the V1 than my old detector (don't remember what it was, but it was not an Excort or other high end detector).
