Battery problems

Sorry for the long write up but I wanted the whole story...

I have a 2005 Mustang GT, I have a C&L Race Intake and Tillmanspeed 93 Race tune. I went to my local Ford dealership last Thursday to get them to look at my CD player because i've been having problems with it. While I was there I changed my tune back to stock and drove a couple hundred feet total with the intake still in on the stock tune. Then after they looked at the car and everything while I was still there I changed it back to the 93 tune and when it started up it didnt sound quite right to me, not a strong start, and kind of weak. It was starting like that all up until yesterday night when I went to start my car and it wouldn't start. I got a jump and started up and worked fine for maybe 4 or 5 starts until this afternoon and it was wouldn't start again. When I go to start it the radio goes crazy, it cycles through every CD and goes AM to FM and then stops. Could this be cause by the tune? Or is my battery probably messed up? I am planning on taking the battery in to check it but being as it is New Years no where is open, and I just wanted to know what everyone thought.

Thanks.

Classic signs of a bad battery. I think the cd player is probably causing a drain on the battery. This is a fairly well known problem with the Shaker systems. Try turning off the radio before turning off the car, see if that helps.

ALmost sure it is the battery. I had the same issue. Forunately still under warranty at that time. Dealer swapped it out.

Factory battery issues are legendary with the new Mustangs.

How long is the battery under warranty? I have the 3-year/36,000 mile warranty but the battery isn't covered under that is it?

If you are still under warranty, I believe it should be covered.

Been told by a club member that it is possible that the alarm and engine diagnosis which are monitoring all of the time ( red light flashing in instrument panel ) that this puts a small draw on the battery. Don't know for sure, I keep a battery tender on it, $30 at most places.

The alarm will provide a small draw due to the sensors constantly active...namely the motion sensors. If you want to leave the car locked for an extended time period, lock the car by using the key in the driver side door to lock the door. That activates the alarm with all sensors active except the cabin motion sensors.

The little red light that flashes in the instrument panel all the time is not engine monitoring, it is a simple security reminder to any theives looking at the car. It is an LED and draws basically no current. Nothing to worry about.

Battery is covered under the 3yr/36mo factory warranty (I just had mine replaced under warranty... dead battery after 15 months... 12k miles). In California.... garaged 80% of the time... always turn off Shaker before ignition... did not leave any lights on.... completely dead after sitting in garage for 4 days. I did have a CompuStar Pro 2-way pager alarm installed a few months ago... but electrical tests did not show any excessive draw (and wasn't armed in garage). Bought a Battery Tender Plus... so doubt I'll run into this again anytime soon.

Bad battery. Low power will cause all kinds of odd things, like the crazy Shaker. My battery went dead at 2.5 years old, and Ford replaced it free. They told me the battery was free replacement under the 3/36 warranty, then pro-rated for 8 years! I don't remember seeing that in writing, but that's a pretty good battery warranty!

Your a dog!!!

My car sat for 6 days over the holidays and when I went to start it up, the voltage dropped low enough that it reset everything. I had to put a charger on it for 10 minutes or so to get enough juice in it to fire up.

The car has sat longer before with no issues, so I suspect that my battery is coming up on the end of it's life.

And my warrantee ran out last month!

I live in FL and my car is a daily driver yesterday and today was the only 2 days so far this whole winter so it's not like it died from sitting still in the cold. Luckly though my warranty wasnt over so I got the new battery!

Same problem here, nothing new I've had this problem since day 1. I had the dealer take a look at it nothing found. In any case this time I came back from vacation and tried to pop the trunk. No pop. I knew it was time to put the batter tender on the battery for a day or so. It did the trick; unfortunately the CD player is now giving me an error "CD ERROR". I did the self test and found 2 DTC's B1342 and B2406. Does anyone know how to reset the radio? I’d like to try and clear the DTC’s. Or is it time to take it to the dealer.

My car sat for three days this weekend (working on the wideband install again and I needed to wait until Monday to get a new O2 bung welded in). Literally 72 hours in the garage.

When I went to start it, it was very slugish, but it DID start. After driving it five miles (50/50 city streats at 45 and interstate at 75), I stopped to get gas. When I start it back up, it was better, but still sluggish. I drove it another 25 miles or so to fully charge the battery (and to test the LC-1 out!). After my stop at Best Buy, it started up like it always does.

I could probably get by with waiting until next Fall to buy a new battery, but I think I should probably go ahead and get it replaced BEFORE it decides to leave me somewhere.
