My '06 still has the original battery and is doing fine. I don't activate the alarm while parked in my garage, so that helps quite a bit. The factory alarm has proven to be a battery drain when sitting for long lengths of time.

my stocker in my 2k lasted a little over 7 years about 45k miles.
I like the trickle charger from sears. If your going to use a regular battery charger, don't leave it on there for days on end unless it shuts it self off when your battery is fully charged.

How do you deactivate the alarm? By leaving the doors unlocked?

I took delivery of my 06 GT in November of 05, and I had to replace the battery in Nov of 09. It isn't a daily driver, and my wife didn't drive it that much when I was out of the country for three months this fall. In fact, the thing died the day I came home! Thought about an Optima, but ultimately just went with a Ford replacement.
What type of Mustangs do you have?

My car has been stored every winter with a solar charger connected to the battery. The battery died just shy of being 5 years old (1 week shy to be exact). I also have a 2006 pickup which needed a new battery this year.

Well, my '08 GT needs a new battery after just 30K miles, it seems. Sitting 2 days and the thing was dead flat. Put it on the charger for 12 hours and it was up to 12.5v, but overnight dropped to 11.5. Starting voltage drops way down into the single digits.
Funny thing, the battery in my '97 Explorer, bought new in 9/96, is still original and that truck has 265K miles. OTOH, the Wal-Mart battery in the farm tractor is dead after just 2 months and it was a free replacement for a 2 yr old battery that died. I think Ford must have changed battery suppliers to the same as Wal Mart...

This was a timely subject, my car was dead to the world on Monday morning...even the remote unlock didn't work...after only 2.5 days of sitting in a fully heated garage (after an hour plus drive on Friday.) Stupidly on my part, I hadn't charged my booster pack in 3 or 4 months so that didn't help either. The car was fine on Tuesday but had just enough juice to start this morning (Wed.) at home and and again this evening when leaving work. Other factors are that my commute is less than 3 miles so the car may not always get the chance to completely recharge and it sits in the Canada cold while I'm at work. I bought the car used in Feb 09, the battery says Motorcraft on it so it may be original.
A pain for sure but if the battery is original then I shouldn't complain about having to replace it after 5 years!

Bought my 05 V6 December, 2004 and I still have the OEM battery. Car is garaged and not driven daily. In Southern AZ we deal with the hot dry Summers, but I think the car being garage kept, and the temperature controlled, has helped. Now that I wrote this I bet I get in the car tomorrow and I will have a dead battery!!!

No issues with my '08 GT battery yet either, and it sometimes sits for several weeks in the summer and several months in the winter without being started.

Hey watch the French jokes! There was a newbie today from france with a ivy green 66 stang in the intro section today! He probably has a some good american jokes!
I do have a shaker 1000 . . . . . I usually leave the radio on when I turn off the car (opening the door within 10 seconds usually) Somebody said this can drain the battery for some odd reason. After I jumped my S197 . . .. . .for a couple of minutes, the auto up on my window did not work (The window was completely down when I jumped it) . . .. . the auto up did work within a couple of minutes (I was envisioning a $120 electrical reset at the dealer).

A battery is only supposed to last 3 years on average and combine that with the fact that it wasn't driven every day can attribute to that. There were some Shaker systems, especially the 1000, that would drain battery life even when off unless you turn the radio OFF before you shut the car down too.

area5179, you definitely have to be careful...after all, had it not been for the French during the Revolutionary War, George Washington and his cronies would have been hanging from the nearest trees and there wouldn't have been a good old USA...we'd all be speaking the "King's English" and thumbing our noses at the Canadians up north.
