Then, as I left, she offered a parting sentiment. "You should've gotten the V6 Mustang model. It has much more modification potential. My son says so."

So I was at my bank this afternoon, and one of the 40-something tellers who knows me looks out the window at my car. She likes how it looks so we go to check it out. She asks what model it was, how much it costs, all the standard stuff. Then she asks what type of radar detector that was in my windshield.
"It's an Escort Passport 8500 X50," I said.
She got this really smug look on her face and sneered. "Oh, those are worthless."
"Really?" I asked. I knew that was a complete falsehood. THe Escort X50 and the Valentine 1 were in a tie for best detector in the country. "Who tells you so?"
Her wrinkled, hairy lips curdled up in what passed for a grin. "My son," she said proudly. "He knows everything about cars! He even installed my radar detector! It's a Rocky Mountain Radar that can block radar and detect laser! Can YOURS detect laser?"
This woman has always been smug and snooty. I tried to slowly break the news to her that RMR products are complete scams and have been condemned by the Better Business Bureau. She didn't want to hear it.
"Well, first off, yes it can detect laser, but laser detection is useless, and RMR products have been shown by various news stations and consumer watchdogs not to jam anything, in fact -"
"Yes they do!" she snapped. "I know they do! It goes off and blocks their radar!"
"And what evidence do you have of this?"
"Well... it goes off! That means it works! And my son says it works, and he knows EVERYTHING about cars. E V E R Y T H I N G ! He even showed me the RIGHT way to mount it - STRAIGHT UP. And he told me the police mount radar guns on some stores like Target and Home Depot and he's right because it goes off whenever I get near one!" I thought her head was going to burst with snobbiness.
I was getting annoyed with this woman. I don't know how much her son knew about cars, but if he knew as much about cars as he did about radar detectors, he didn't know much. We all know that the hits she was experiencing when she was close to a store was their motion detectors and that pointing the detector straight up is just moronic. I'd love to punch whoever thought that idea up right in the mouth. Stupid, stupid, stupid. :bang:
I shrugged. "Well, if you're trying to pick up low-flying aircraft radar, I guess that's the best placement for it. Listen, I wish you luck with it, though. You'd be the first person to have an RMR product that works."
"You should call my son. He'll get you fixed up with a good radar detector."
Then, as I left, she offered a parting sentiment. "You should've gotten the V6 Mustang model. It has much more modification potential. My son says so."
I rolled my eyes. "I'll be sure to trade it in as soon as possible."
This experience reminds me why I have mostly stopped trying to help people.

This is a good story, it pisses me off. So, is this a true one or a concoction. You really know how to stir the pot man.

is this another one of those whiney posts "someone was mean to me in the presence of my mustang" ? In life there is always people like the woman you described. They are ignorant, they think they know it all because someone else told them it was the best (in this case her son.) People like her will go around telling others that the world is flat, and that she knows its true because her son told her so. best thing to do is not engage in a petty argument and just walk away.
edit: i want to add that all radar detectors stink, they constantly go off to the point where you start ignoring it like car alarms. often, laser radar is READY-ON meaning by the time your radar detector is going off its too late.

I'd be checking to make sure the bank transaction was correct.

I live in a small town and alot of ppl here are hicks. they drive trucks that are rusted to poo but have nice rims. Trying to talk to these ppl is useless. I was talking to one guy once and we were talking about the 05 stang. He goes "pff mustang, you should go buy a new camaro. they are nice." this was a couple of months ago. I just looked at him and said "they havn't made the camaro for a couple of years." he then laughed and tould me I was a funny kid. That was the end of that conversation. I can't stand it when ppl talk about stuff that they don't really know about.

LMAO!!
That is by far the stupidest, most ignorant statement I've ever heard about the Mustang. Her son sounds like a real moron.

Funny story! Sounds like her kid needs to get his head out of the magazines and go outside and experience the real world. She obviously couldn't trump you on your car, so she tried to beat up on your poor defenseless radar detector. Too bad it doesn't have a Smart azz band.

You should have told to have her son meet you some where with his 92 Honda Civic so you could check out his 6 inch muffler, neon underlighting and K-mart performance peddals

hahaha, I thought I was the only one that has had someone tell them they should've bought the V6 its the better one, the only way that has more potential to modify is if you were to change the motor to a V8, then I guess you have one more mod then you wouldve if you just bought the GT...lol
I also get the whole thats stupid treatment about buying the V8 because of the gas prices, or some concern over it, I always have to just tell them if I wanted fuel efficiency I would've bought a Toyota Prius, I want to go fast and look good doing it.

Although I will nt admit that my last story isn't "fiction," I can confirm that this definitely happened. Sorry if it looked like I was trying to "stir the pot." Sometimes really annoying stuff happens to me and I need to vent somewhere.

that it is more open for mods? thats stupid. if you really want u can do any mod to any car u want. its called custom work. it may cost u though. I can't see why the V6 and GT would be any different when it comes to being more open for mods
