I have an opportunity to buy a 2005 Mustang GT right now, but I wanted to see if you all thought it was as good a deal as I think it is...

2005 Mustang GT Premium Coupe
-Perf White
-ICAP
-IUP (obviously)
-Shaker 1000
-Upgrade Wheels (split 5 spoke)
-5 spd Manual
-Active Anti-Theft
-Side Airbags (I think)

Also, the car has only 10,000 miles, and has a couple mods:
-Flowmaster axle-backs
-Painted brake calipers

the asking price is $25,000, but its a dealer, so I know I can work with it...

what do you all think is a good price for a car like that?

Might be a tad expensive, but if you can talk the dealer down I say go for it!

for a bit more, you can buy a new one can't you?

I'd rather pay the extra 1-2 grand than have 10,000 miles of who knows what done to it... try and work them for a better deal.

actually, this car was babied, and you can tell...
it still has a little new car smell left...
yes, I could buy a new one, but its actually about 6-7k more if you option it out the same.
does that change your mind, or not?
i'm thinking I can get it for about 23.5k or so, is that good or not?

A little to expensive with the miles., IMO. If it had about 5K on the odometer, then you would have a steal, I mean deal on your hands.

so 23.5k is not really a deal?
btw, check out the SN95 section for my COBRA info, I may be selling it...
If I were to trade the Cobra (which is a 10th ann. vert w/ 5800 miles) would getting 5k back be a deal?

If you can get it for around 23 to 24kgo for it if you feel its been takin care of well.
With those options in 05 that car went for about 27,500+
If it were me though...I'd spring for the 06 for a couple k more.

Good Luck with either choice.

I just bought an '06 and I would say after the extra fees you are essentially
saving $5K-$6K versus new at Invoice. Soooo that's not too bad of a deal
at first glance but of course it's 0-50 miles versus 10,000 miles.

Since you said 23.5K and it was babied.....then Offer less than you were
thinking. Say something about miles blah blah blah and NOTE that the
dealer didn't pay extra for the Extras. Offer them a number you're happy
with even if it's 23.5 or 23K. Then get ready to walk each time they come
back with a number you can't stand.

What's the worst thing that can happen? Somebody else buys it some other
day. Whoooopty doo.

If you like the car, offer 22k, if they don't take it, leave them your number and walk away... do it, walk away. Don't let them stop you from getting into your car to leave, tell them to call with their best offer, you NEED to leave. That is when you will get your best deal. Don't go back into the dealership until you have the price you want. They need to sell it more than you need to buy it!

Is trading the your Cobra for a Shelby an option? You sure you want to get rid of that Cobra, there is so much you can do with that engine.

NO thats the problem torrence...I love the Cobra, but I'm so afraid to touch it because it is so rare...
believe me, if it was a regular cobra it'd have 500 hp right now, but I just can't bring myself to start fiddling with a car that I view as a future "1969 Shelby GT500" (at least in terms of value or collectibility)

I think I will be much happier having a GT I can mod, because tha is what I love...working on cars...I would rather spend the money to personalize the car rather than have a show car that I cannot touch or drive...

maybe some of you all have a similar story(or can at least relate some)

Ben: You are not that far from North Florida. My local dealer has 6 or 7 GT coupes available at 3% over invoice any day. If you negotiate I am pretty sure a 2% over invoice is possible, same as the deal I received. I have no financial interest, just trying to help. Drop me a PM if you are interested in details.

On the '05 deal: $20K, $21K max.

Since when does a "little new car smell" mean it's been babied? Dealers do miracles to make a car look like it's been babied. Mine will pretty much be exactly the same. I'm paying $27,000, so I don't see how you can say $6,000 to $7,000 more for the same vehicle. You live in the south. There are many dealers down there with many Mustangs on the lots. You can do better than you think going new. Personally, I would never buy a used GT after reading on this site how people treat thier cars.
What do Flowmasters cost, $400.00. Painted calipers, $10.00. Come on, start calling around.

That's a much better deal by far and you will be buying a car that hasn't been driven by anyone other than yourself. For that price I would have bought the GT myself if I could afford the insurance. Only 23 and in college so I'll wait two more years to go GT. Hope whatever you go with you enjoy it!

That's about what I paid for mine: Premium GT w/the standard 17" Bullitt wheels, IUP, side airbags, the wheel lock kit and something else which doesn't pop in my mind now..
