Aux Audio Port Part Number

Im interested in adding Aux Audio input to my 2006 Mustang GT Shaker 500 for my IPOD.

I am looking to get the input jack that goes in the center console storage compartment.

Does anyone know the part number from Ford?.. or is there an equivalent. Want it to look OEM.

Also, is the PIE adapter the way to go?

Thanks
Chris

I am very happy with the PIE unit I put in my 06 GT, it wasnt that tough of a job after figuring out how the center console comes up to access the screws on the front of the radio. Try as you will, there is no way to unplug, plug the harness jumper into the radio unit without pulling it.
the sound is so much better when you dont have to use the FM transmitter!!

Hey Steve, thanks for posting the link to the other section, I really appreciate it . Chris, you can't just purchase the AUX wire, as I listed in the other post. To get that wire, you have to purchase the whole loom, which comes with the power point which is next to it, in the console, AND the safety restraint module. This makes the part over $400. Not a good option. As I was leaving work tonight, I noticed a new F150 Crew cab in the back that came off a small carrier. I didn't get a chance to look at it, but if its an '07, I plan on taking the radio out to see if the 3.5MM imput plug is a seperate piece, unlike the Mustang. In the F150's for 2007, the plug is directly above the radio, on the top of the dash, where the rubber mat is on the dash. My hope (and I am really hoping), is that since the plug is only less than a foot away from the back of the radio, it SHOULD be a separate wire, all by itself. If it is, and it has a part number, I will post it on here.

I'm off tomorrow (heading up to the US Open to watch some tennis), but I'll be back in on Friday all day and night. If I have some time, I'll see if I can get the radio out and poke around to get some info. Cross your fingers for me.

Why do I need the P.I.E. for an IPOD?

Guys/Gals,
Cant I just plug the IPOD directly into the Aux input of the radio? without a P.I.E.?

Has anyone matched the line-out impedance, signal level etc. of an IPOD with the input of the Aux-In on the Shaker500?

Why do you have to put the P.I.E. interface in-line. What is done on the 2007's that is different than the 2006's? Electronically speaking. Is there an electronic unit on the 2007's that acts like the P.I.E.? I assume the radios are identical.

To me, it would seem that if you could get the correct connections made to the back of the radio and the IPOD, it should work.

Is there someone at Ford or Visteon.. or wherever the radio is made that could answer this?

I know theres alot of questions, but us Engineers are known for that.
sorry

Chris

the one i just bought from crutchfield. you buy the adapter, plug it in the back of the unit, then you buy RCA cables from them for like $5, and the plug the cable into the adapter and the one plug plugs into the bottom or top of your ipod.

all together, ran me $110 from crutchfield.

Being that there is no aux input in the 06 shaker, you might find that difficult. The PIE was created to ADD an aux input which was lacking from the factory. The shaker is aux CAPABLE, but Ford didn't implement that capability until 07.

Again, there is no Aux-In in the 06. The PIE has a volume control allowing you to match the volume of the ipod to that of other shaker audio (cd, radio, etc).

The 07 Aux-In is wired into the entire power loom, as 05fordgt has noted. Re-read his post for clarity.

Not sure, it looks like 1+,1-, shield. Could be an input, but most likely mono. I can't see it very well. J-3 shows right and left but my guess that would be input for the CD. If I see J4 correctly, I have no clue what a balanced mono input would used for. Output for a sub-amp could be a possibility.

well, when you decide that your electrical engineering career is over - bite the bullit and get the pie or if you will only be using an ipod get the peripheral like i did - i can leave it in the armrest and it charges while playing and i can control it through the radio - i am happy but again you will pay in the 190 range.
