Why have the manuals been tested with times so close to the autos? Driver error could be the reason, but the sn95's were so far apart... is this good for autos and bad for manuals?

It sounds like they finally put a decent auto in the Mustang. Why is it such a big deal? With fast autos and manuals, it seems like everyone's a winner to me!

I love the fact the new stang has a 5 speed auto option. Should makes owning an auto a bit more interesting.

yea, i dont see it as a problem for the manual. both the auto owners and the manual owners win. its not like tha manuals are slow by any means

Dont be so surprised, Ford just finally got the auto right. If you ask any of our dear friends driving the LS1's(i hope that doesn't get filtered here B) ) they will tell you the auto owns the dragstrip, but the Manual owns the street. Looks to be true to the 05 Mustang too. In other words, ON AVERAGE, look for the autos to have better ET's but lower traps. Keep in mind i said on average, therefore a good driver + manual = faster.

What's the best time posted so far with the manual? I remember that the MotorWeek show stated 0-60 in 5.0 sec, but didn't say where it was the auto or manual tranny.

I know that MotorTrend has posted 0-60 in 5.1 sec w/ 1/4 mile in 13.6 @ 99.9 mph for the auto 5-spd.

Lots of other stuff I've seen have estimated times.

The gearing of the auto transmission is much lower (better) than the SN95 4-speed.

Lower gearing=faster Mustang.

Yep... spend some $$$...

But the best way would be to swap the REAR END gears for lower-geared ones. 4.10's would probably help considerably with the new Mustang.

What do you think the max hp will be that this auto can handle? Do you think it should be able to handle at least 350hp at the crank ?

I don't think the 5R55S is near as strong as the 4R70W. I don't have specs, but I remember a Ford Mechanic posting on another fourm about the design. He said it was a modified version of an older trans Ford used to put behind the 4-cylinder Mustangs. I have an auto on order, but continue to be skeptical about its long-term durability without a proven track record behind the 4.6 in the Mustang.

It really does annoy me when people come in and bad mouth the automatic. Not everyone enjoys the manual and monkeying with a clutch and shifter every time they go to accelerate and de-accelerate.

The auto makes my life easier.

Stadifer, I agree with you 100%, the stick would be fun sometimes, but if I have to live with it everyday, I'd grow tired of it.

I never learned how to drive a manual and have never had a reason to. I understand that this is more or less an enthusiast board. But just because some folks prefer the auto doesn't mean you need to bad mouth them.

Same goes for the V6... I'd get the GT but because of insurance and price it's not possible.

Anywho, I'm off my soap box now

Note: Now, had my first car ever had been my Dad's 1980 F-150 then things might be different (It was a manual).
