Now if only they replaced those 10" subs with 15's.
you don't get the same range with 15's or 12's for that matter they tend to skip beats 10's are the best size

Here's my two cents:

I know there were a couple of people on this thread that mentioned that they have the Mach 1000 on their current cars. I fall into this category as well. It's a pretty nice stereo. I was lucky in the fact that my car was a leftover 2002 GT and it had the 1000 in it (I really got it thrown in for free).

That being said, I don't think I could pay for this option. As has been mentioned, this is a pricey stereo option. There is no way (IMHO) that this stereo is worth that cash.

Over the last year, I have gotten used to how the Mach sounds and have always thought that it was decent compared to some aftermarket equipment I had in my old Civic. I buddy of mine was in need of some equipment and I gave it to him to use (it consisted of an Alpine deck, some Pioneer/Premier components and and Pioneer/Premier 12" sub in a non-ported box with a 250 watt A/B class amp).

The other day I got a chance to listen to it. I couldn't believe how good my old equipment sounded. It blew away my Mach 1000 in every way. The bass was deeper, the highs were nicer and it was nice and loud.

The thing to keep in mind is that Ford makes these systems with durability in mind. On the surface, this appears like a good thing. But realistically, it limits your options. For instance, you can't seperately control the base on the subs! That's awful for such an "expensive" stereo. They don't want people blowing their subs by cranking the bass. Understandable - for maybe 500 bucks. But for 1300 USD? Forget it!

You can't really add anything to the system and you really need to rip the whole system out to use your own stuff.

For some people, maybe this is a good option. No hassle...just set it and forget it. But in my humble option, you can take that $1300 and have a really nice aftermarket system.

Agreed. Aftermarket offers a LOT more for the money. I may not change mine, however, because once you take apart the virgin dash and door panels, you start to get rattles, etc. I hate rattles.

Best thing woudl be to see if you can get just the sub enclosure from the shaker 1000 and put your own subs, amp, etc. in. That way you'd have the benifits of an aftermarket system with the space saving enclosure of the shaker 1000. I have a feeling some aftermarket manufacturers will probably reverse engineer the enclosure anyways, most likely improving it, so if a stock part isn't available, an aftermarket version might. Could all just be a pipe-dream though.

That would be one expensive enclosure...$1300 for a custom box...you can get one custom built better with better cubic space for aftermarket speakers for a third of that price.

Please realize how hard it is to get that song outta your head, livin' in PA, when the Radio stations played it to death -so anything that remotely(sp?) reminds me of it... jig, gig, iggy, iggy pop, jiggly jello, etc. brings back that tune. Nah, nah, nah, nah, na-nah

Other than the sub box in the trunk, are there any other differences between the 500 and the 1000?

i don't think so. i think the mach 1000 is more speakers and therefore more wattage. (additional amp(s) for the subs in the trunk) but i think the head unit is the same.

*edit:
order guide

check page 6 on the guide, it tells you what it comes with. 9 speakers for the 1000, 6 for the 500.

i still don't know where that 9th speaker is. 1 in each door, 1 behind each seat, 2 in the back dash, 2 in the trunk = 8. maybe it's got a center channel. i should put my tv in there so i could have a surround sound system.

So far, I'm going with the Shaker 1000. I'm trading in a Jeep that has a upgraded factory stereo with sub & tweeters; probably 180 watts. Even at that low of a rating it coud thump -and that is with a soft top, no insulation.

maybe it's like this:

2 in each door, 1 behind each seat, 2 in the back dash, 1 in the trunk

maybe you just get an extra sub in the trunk that is counted as one speaker. and they leave the shaker500 subs in the doors?

well, i'm guessing, and it's a huge guess, it's either

shaker500:

1 in each door = 2
1 behind each seat
OR = 2
2 in the front dash
2 in the rear dash = 2
-----------------------------
TOTAL = 6

shaker1000:

1 in each door = 2
1 behind each seat
OR = 2
2 in the front dash
2 in the rear dash = 2
2 subs in the trunk = 2
(1 mystery speaker) = 1
-----------------------------
TOTAL = 8
should be = 9

most of whats in it is known, except some of the speaker locations. but that's pretty standard on all cars.

i think i mentioned this before, but i saw the 05 focus guide at the dealer i ordered my 'stang from, and it is coming with the shaker 500/1000 also. it also said, very plainly, that it was made by SONY. i'm assuming it is the same stereo system, and therefore the same manufacturer. i thought, however, that the shakers were made by Delphi. (refrence: main page) i don't have a problem with either, so i guess either way it's kewl.

guess we'll just have to wait and see. but i'm guessing it will sound fantastic. shaker 1000 in my car btw. i wish the MyColor would affect the stereo too, but i remember reading somewhere that it didn't. guess you can't win 'em all.

There is aleast 2 in each door and what appears to be 2 on the rear deck lid totaling 6 for the Shacker 500. -The 3 additional ones in the Shaker 1000... Maybe the 2 trunk subs = 1 and 2 mystery tweeters.
