Any idea why Ford made the stock interior lighting green?
Just wondering if anyone know why the stock gauges and interior lights are green in the 05-09 Mustangs? Seems like an odd choice that you don't see in many other cars.

When I had my 1994 Mustang, the backlighting and digital readouts were blue. Some genius moron at Ford decided later that all Fords should start using that slime green, so the nice blue was changed in later model years. That slime green carried over with the redesign of the 2005 Mustang without any consideration how crappy the green backlighting looked in cars with the My Color instrument cluster option. So for 2010 Ford started using ice blue.

The original Mustangs had green gauges at night. The bulbs were colored to produce the green tint on the white lettering:

Also, green at night is typically less annoying (to most) than harsher blues or reds, and more easily adjusted to at night, especially when faced with oncoming headlights. Red is harder to adjust to after being blinded, and green is the easiest, and traffic signal green is the wavelength of choice. Or so some scientists/papers say...
Whatever, I use R1B1G1 (darkest grey possible) on my MyColor for my gauges, and love it.

Yep, the only real complaint I have about my car. And they couldn't have easily replaceable bulbs to change it with either.
I mean why bother giving us an option to change SOME of the lights if the rest are stuck in that stupid ugly green?![Dunno](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/dunno.gif)
Oh, and OP? Most cars I have owned or driven since the 70s have had green lighting. I still haven't learned to like it.

I leave mine set to ice blue all the time. Every once in a while i try to change it up but i immediately want it back to ice blue after a short time. If it were not for ice blue i would do the regular blue.

Ice blue was only on 2010 and up. Or are you just talking about the gauges itself an switching that too ice blue color?

Almost all Fords from the late 80s up through the mid 2000s had the green backlit color for gauges and auxiliary buttons/switches. I've been in the following, and all of them were that same "ford green" color:
1988 Escort GT
1988 Tempo GLS
1992 Tempo GLS
1993 Topaz
1989 Taurus SHO
1993 Taurus SHO
1993 TBird SC
1995 Cougar
1991 Escort LX
1992 Escort GT
1999 Mustang
2001 Bullitt
2001 Mustang GT
2006 Mustang GT
1988 Escort GT
1988 Tempo GLS
1992 Tempo GLS
1993 Topaz
1989 Taurus SHO

1993 TBird SC
1995 Cougar
1991 Escort LX
1992 Escort GT
1999 Mustang
2001 Bullitt

I have a 2010 that i leave set to ice blue for My Color and ambient lighting. My last car was a 2008 and mixed the My Color into ice blue but i was stuck with the slime green backlighting for the switches and info readouts. I had also used regular blue for the gauges and installed my own blue ambient LED lighting. I made a failed attempt at trying to change the green LED's in the radio, hvac and switches to blue LED's but discovered they are way too small and delicate for me to work with.
