Just curious, I'm a T/A owner and I'm planning on ordering a 05 GT. Not replacing the T/A just adding to the collection. I have driven the new GT and it seems pretty strong out of the box but it still doesn't seem as strong as my T/A, nor is it likely to respond to mods as well as an LS-1. I still love it and have to have one... just wondering what other people think as far as comparisons go.

Thumbs down

I would walk before I would drive an LS-1. They look like a wedge of cheese, and they are what we call Extinct. The 05 GT 5 speed makes more power to the wheels than it is rated for at the flywheel from the factory. The mustang will definitly mop up tthe LS-1!!

Yeah yeah I know some of you don't like f-bodies but I do. So what, to each his own. I happen to like any cool car regardless of who makes it. Let's not forget that the 98 ls1 fbody could walk the dog on a 98 GT or Cobra any day, on the street, strip, or road course. So for its time whether you all want to admit it or not the LS1 was the shiznit. Just like the fox body was king of its era. I've had 2 T/a's and lots of fox bodies, so I'm no hater.

All badgering aside I am just wondering how some of you honestly think the new 3v motor compares with the LS1.

Yea, had to get something to replace the built 90 Gt I totalled last year. Not quite the character of a 331 stroker in a fox body, but I had to have the shaker hood. Not to mention pristine fox-bodies are hard to come by, and expensive when you do find one. Luckily I had a stated value policy, so most of the money I had in the fox was returned Thanks State Farm!

I own a Camaro and its currently for sale because about 2 weeks ago I ordered my 05 Mustang GT, my parents have always owned a least one camaro at one time or another. To me its not all about hp its more about looks to me, I love the way camaros look and I love the way mustangs look as well. And yes the LS1 is a very easy motor to mod and there very powerful out of the box. Knowing this because my parents owned a 02 Camaro SS. I have test drove a lot of Z28's and GT's and love them all. Its always seemed to me that Camaros have always had more hp, that’s why I was a little disappointed the new GT had 300hp, I was thinking they would have more like 310-320 but whatever. B)

Only T/A I would drive is the original Smokey and the Bandit car. God, I would love to have one of those in pristine condition!

LS1 =
I HATE those things!!! Lid, exhaust, tb = 8,972 hp at the wheels
They're absolute freaks! And I am a GM hater. But I think the 05 Mustang is hands down the best overall pony car ever, and the power is respectable from jump street. Add mods, they will be available!

Bottom line...less power than LS1, but even with 66 less cubes, it is a great starting point and has plenty of potential.

My dad had a white 78 for a while when I was little. I remember it was so cool to ride in, got more attention than a vette. Pathetically slow to have a big block, but man did it look good.

Well, you *can* have one... http://www.texastransams.com/ this guy restores old Trans Ams...lots of cool pics on his site - looks like prices go for around 20K. I too would love to have a 70's TA, the 1970 1/2 white w/blue racing stripe is one of my all time favorites.

I've owned a number of F bodies, 2 Trans Ams and 2 Z28's, and even a Fiero GT. Recently I purchased my first Mustang, a 2003 GT and I'm hooked. I want to keep it and either get a Mach 1 or an '05 next.

If any of you think the new GT will own a LS1 you're mistaken.

It'll likely be just like the Mach 1 vs. LS1's, from a dig a Mach will take it to ~100, but from a roll a LS1 will walk it. I don't understand the fixation with beating a LS1 in order for this car to be a success. No Camaro can come close to the interior, styling or handling of the new mustang. Sure I dislike F-Bodies (except firebirds) as much as the next mustang driver, but they pull like beasts Give props where it's due...

i will be picking up my new 05 in a couple of day's but I have been driving a 1991 V6 firebird for the past 4 years. It may only have a V6 but it does have t-tops and is all most the same redfire color as my new stang. Will probably keep the 91 as a winter/horrible weather car.

I have a 2001 trans am, that when it was stock ran 13.5 and with light mods ($2500) ran 12.97, heavy mods ($34.000 more, 382 slp tt motor, install, 82mm throttle, etc) ran mid 8's on slicks.

I've always found that the modular 4.6's are pretty welcoming to modifications, and not very expensive (not as cheap as 5.0s of old). If the new 05 is runnin 13.6 on cars that arent even broken in yet, id be willing to say that they are pretty evenly matched cars (i dunno if the 99 had less power than the 01, but it might, in which case, itd be even closer). You also have to realize the sticker price on my 01 t/a when i got it was $36,760 compared to an 05 gt at $25,000-$30,000.

I love the 05 mustang and I love the LS1, f-bodies. I have driven many of each. I even prefer to drive a mustang five speed over a z28 or trans am. However, I have never been in any mustang gt/cobra (non supercharged ricer version) that has the power that the LS-1 has with or without the ram air/SS package.

Mustangs are special in their own way because of their handling capabilities. They are more comfortable inside for the bigger people and their looks are liked better by most enthusiast.

I guess my bottom line is that an LS-1 motor will beat any GT of the modern era. I find myself drooling over the 05 and would love to have one. So I consider myself on both sides of the track in the fact that I love f-bodies and the mustangs.

That's a good point, and a major part of the reason (i believe) that the f-body didn't sell well. My 99 T/A vert. was about $34k new. Also all the whole marketing tactics were crazy. GM dealers I attempted to deal with were terrible. They all acted as though the T/A was some crazy limited car. It was nearly impossible to find a dealer who would deal (many had markups) They didn't want talk to a 19 year old, not even the dealer I bought my 97 T/A from! It then took 7 months to get the car, after being lied to about its whereabouts, etc...Agonizing doesn't even begin to describe it, but i'm glad I held out for the exact car I wanted and as of today it's the only car I've never grown tired of. I will never sell it.

Luckily i have a really good contact in fleet sales at a major Ford dealer, so I get good deals on Fords, and dont have to deal w/ jackazz GM dealers. Sorry to rant but I am reminded of the nightmare I had getting my T/A every time one of you guys talks about waiting on your new 05...thats exactly why I am waiting to order, with all the IUP hold, quality hold crap I don't want to go through that again.

I'm 6'4 and "for me" my camaro seems to have more room compared to a 94-04 mustang. But thats my personal preference~

Yeah, no reason to go crazy with trying to compare to an LS-1. From what I have seen numbers wise, the new stang might take it off the line, but the farthur you go, the more the LS-1 will come strong and end up beating the 05. The ONE major thing right there that I hold against Ford in all of this. We are still talking about beating an LS-1 with the most powerful base GT motor setup from Ford. How long has the LS-1 been out now???

Either way, my order has been in for about a month now for a 05 GT. I got to sit in one that was darn close to what I ordered, and I liked it. A LOT
