Another gear shifting question

I've started noticing recently that when the transmission is cold the shift from 2nd to 3rd is met with slightly more resistance than when shifting to the other gears. To describe it, it's kind of like a small grind at engagement, though grind may be too strong a word... how about gear "nip". It seems to work fine after it warms up though. What bothers me is that this is the only gear (3rd) that it does it on. It's a 2007 and has about 3000 miles on her. So is this normal due to lower outside temps now? What do you guys think?
Thanks

Normal, due to lower temps.

Thanks Steve. Thats the answer I was hoping for. It was a little unnerving because it was only happening with one gear.
Do you think it would help any if I go to a different tranny fluid?

I have the same issue, I am about to switch to full synthetic in the rear and the tranny, It should help it shift better in the colder weather.

It's because of the temperature. Ive noticed that the tranny's on newer jeep will hang up in a gear when you have virtually any lateral force, kinda strange.

The T5 in my SVO does this too, but it goes away after a couple of runs through the gears.
And it really bugs me....

Well it sure makes me feel better that I'm not alone with this. WaltM you hit the nail on the head.....a couple of runs through the gears and it goes away. I'm definitely going to check into the full synthetic tranmission fluid option. I guess, anyway you look at it, it can't hurt, right?

Ford spec'd Mercon (non synthetic) for these trannys up until 08, now they spec Mercon V (synthetic). I don't think anything internally has changed, so it will probably work just fine.

It's funny -

If the car sits less that 1/2 a day, it's fine. But if it sits a day or longer, it binds in third. At that time I need to "baby" it (shift at low revs) the first mile or so, until it smooths out.

I would really like to find a fix for this as well.

Today wasn't bad at all, outside temps were in upper 50's and it wasn't noticable. Definitely temp induced...though it still is annoying that it occured and will again when temps drop.

I found that TSB-06-26-1 addresses the Mercon vs. Mercon V fluid exchange. In essense it says that Mustangs 2005-2007 with the standard Tre. trans. will be able to use the Mercon V fluid as replacement/service just as the 2008 model can. Just like Steve said! Sounds pretty good to me

Now the question is, how does it shift with the Mercon V vs. the regular Mercon??

I have the same problem with my, though it is a legit grid sound. I make sure my clutch pedal is all the way down. From a cold start from 2nd to 3rd I usually have a grind sound. After I shift to 3rd a couple times it goes away, but definatley and uneasy feeling..

I wouldn't say that's normal. The old rotted T5 in my car did not grind into 3rd until the synchro clutch was shot. When I rebuilt the transmission, that stopped (however the face teeth on 3rd gear were still ground down so it didn't shift perfectly). When I blew the gear teeth off of 3rd and replaced the gear, no more problems at all.

It's probably the clutch, you can just live with it, were it my car I'd eventually pull the trans out and throw a set of clutches in there.

I'm not tranny-saavy. So, when you say throw in a set of clutches, what do you mean? Is there more than a single clutch?
