Just had Ford install the new strut mounts and I'm back in business. I had to wait a week for the parts to come in. No more popping when turning...front end feels solid. Best of all, it's covered under warranty!

not that I know of...my right one blew apart and i rebuilt it...I ordered the part myself, then talked to the service manager, who took control from there and told me not to worry...warranty would pick this up..
Also to all, I forgot to mention my car is lowered and the service manager said "it didn't matter" the part failed.

Just wondering whether anybody knows or not whether the "popping" problem will be fixed in advance with the new strut mounts at the factory on any cars that haven't been built yet? Thanks for any info.

I'm waiting for a TSB. I don't want to have my dealer guess about how to fix it. The problem is getting worse all the time, however.

I am also waiting for a TSB before I bring it in. Glad to hear yours is working fine, but you never know if they just replaced it with the same bad part an it will start popping again. That has happened to a few on here. I'll wait until there is an actual TSB before I waste time at the dealer.

I had my upper sturt bearings replaced way back in Dec..it worked great for about 3.000 miles but in the last 2 weeks the popping is coming back :bang: I'll have them done again when the new parts hit the dealer shelfs

no, it's not the same old part that was orginally used on the assembly line...totally different part numbers etc. These new ones were started the manufacturing process around 4 april.

Is there a way to tell if your car has the revised parts? Ours was built this past week, hopefully I have the improved parts.

When you get your car-drive it No, just kidding-More than likely if new parts are available for service, they should have purged all old parts from production.

How about a part number?? I am a service advisor at Legacy Ford in Brunswick, Ohio and would like to know what the # is. I have not seen any updated info. Here is the last SSM from Ford:

18461 2005 MUSTANG - POPPING NOISE - FRONT OF VEHICLE ON TURNS
2005 MUSTANG VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT A POPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE IN TURNS. VERIFY THAT NOISE IS COMING FROM THE STRUT BEARING OR SPRING WITH CHASSIS EARS. ENGINEERING IS CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING. NO REPAIRS SHOULD BE ATTEMPTED AT THIS TIME. MONITOR OASIS FOR UPDATES.
EFFECTIVE DATE: 03/10/2005

I know it is over one month old, but is the latest info I have.

I noticed that popping noise. It was doing it sparingly. Then today I put it in park. Got in my car, and all of a sudden it rolled back and made a big popping noise. Then it went back to popping once in a while. Please let me know when frod has this TSB. I didnt like "The big pop" hehe

Something amiss here...
According to my information there is no such basic part number as 18138, however there is a 18183, which is listed as a "Bracket Assembly-Front Shock tower". I think someone mixed up some digits in the basic part number.
Just a quick primer on Ford part numbering.

Prefix Basic part Suffix
5R3Z 18183 A

The prefix details (usually) model year, world market and vehicle line
The basic details type of part, i.e. 18125=Front shock absorber/strut
the suffix details engineering level/revision. the higher the letter, the later the revision (A=oldest, Z(God forbid they ever get that high )=newest revision.

So IMHO you have the original level mounts installed. I will update when the newest parts are available.

Well, Tiberius maybe you can get with Kcstang and he can help you figure out how to use your computer to find parts. He helped me get the new correct part numbers. Try to order the orginals and see what happens....It will tell everything you need to know. This is a perfect example of why Ford stock is slipping IMO.

I will call Tech hotline on Monday to get the latest scoop-the last conversation I had with them, they had expected new mounts to be available in April, but that could mean any time this month or sadly, in my experience it could be in May. :notnice: I will post when I have better information.

exactly, when I blew mine out in Feb, I could not get the old ones and had to wait till April 19th to get the new ones. A long wait on a srut mount that is plastic and held together with super glue gel...I praise the stuff cause I never missed a day of driving...Mine blew completly apart and spilled the bearings. My service manager had me the new strut as soon as the came off the line. Kc Stang provided all necessary part info and production schedules.

Matt---thanks for monitoring this and keeping us informed when all the info is published by Ford. Between you and Kevin we should get there in due course. I, too, am waiting for the TSB to be released or the issue to be otherwise updated. If it's not on the computer, my dealer's S.A.'s won't know what to do with my car.

Please keep us posted. Thanks.
