The first time I saw a sonic blue '05 it was at night, and under the
dealer lights it was awsome, really thought that was the color for
me until I saw it in the day light and it was purple. So no sonic
blue for me, not that I have a thing against purple cars, just not
my color of choice.

Too bad Ford (as of yet) hasn't included a color similar to True Blue. That color could very well be the best Mustang has ever had IMO.
I totally agree. My 2002 is True Blue. I would love to see them offer the new body style in True Blue. I don't think either of the blues offered can compare with it, which is why i will be getting my 05 in legend lime.

I was dead set on getting the sonic blue until I saw one in person. It definitely looked a little purple to me. I think purple is okay, but not for a Mustang. I had an Escort ZX2 in Bright Atlantic Blue that I thought was a nice shade of blue, but apparently Ford doesn't think so, since they stopped offering it. If Vista Blue is anything like the old Bright Atlantic Blue, I might consider getting another blue Mustang. My '01 was True Blue.

Right now, I'm sold on Torch Red, but lately, I've also considered Screaming Yellow (because I can't take my eyes off of it) and even the Legend Green. I don't know what it is about that color; I'm not much on green, but it is kind of striking. It's a classy color; it makes a great color for a sleeper car. I just saw one at the dealer today with the Bullitt wheels. It looked awesome! Except it had that neutered "Interior Sport Appearance Package." Sort of disappointing. Could have used that dash applique. Only the steering wheel and shifter were different than the base model!

Hope to start seeing more Stangs with the full-strength IUP on the dealer lots soon...

I ordered my convert with sonic blue. I think it'll look awesome. But hey if it looks a little purple in some light then people will just think I'm like Joker from Batman, driving around in a purple car with a HUGE smile.

Sonic Blue was my original first choice too when I saw the brochures and color charts at the dealers. I was hoping it was going to be a bright blue, like the Suburu WRX or the PT Cruiser. But then I saw one at the dealer and it definitely has a purple tint to it. I think in all lighting conditions you can see the purple, but more so when it's overcast.

It's still a nice looking car for sure, but it would have been so much better IMO if it had really been blue.

But then I'm getting yellow, and I know a lot of folks would never get a yellow car, so who am I to say? :nono:

I agree that the Sonic Blue is too purply for my taste. I have a 98 GT that is Atlantic Bue. I think there were two that year, a dark and a light. I have the darker. I like it a lot, and wish Ford would have more deep, metallic, grayish blues rather than the purply ones like Sonic, and back in the day, Midnight Blue, which was on 94's as well as Thunderbird SC's.

It's true Sonic Blue appears purple in some lighting or at different angles. I actually think it's pretty cool, and have received many compliments on the color.

As Brad has posted, Sonic Blue is being replaced by Vista Blue for 2006. I have absolutely no knowledge about this new color, but from the name I would imagine it to be a brilliant deep sky blue.

I wish it came in pink. Seriously though, the purple is why I don't like the Sonic Blue. True Blue is way better
Playboy pink, and your right about True blue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok maybe i'm not like the majority of guys on here but I think purple or the sonic's "blueish purple" under certain lighting looks awesome.

Personally I wouldn't like sonic blue if it didn't have a purple-ish tone to it. Just a regular blue looks too plain and not really a "mustang color" IMO. A solid blue is more like something that should be on a taurus or f-150. The purple-ish tone adds to this car and really make it stand out. If sonic blue looked blue-ish purple all the time, I may have ordered my car in that color instead.

I simply love my sonic blue how it changes in the light. I know a lot of people use the word purple but there is no way under any light condition does the car look purple. Purple is the colour of the annoying Barny. Don't confuse the 2.

My 97 GT (which was recently sold) was also Dark Atlantic Blue and my 2005 Sonic Blue GT is almost the exact same colour. They both did the colour shift change depending on lighting.

Guess I have been a graphic designer too long to know when I see purple and the Sonic Blue does not have PURPLE in it B) It shifts between shades of blue. The pearl/laser tinted clear cause the blue to be a very relective bright blue in direct sunlight whereas the lack of light causes it too look like a flat blue, which since the pearl is not relecting light in this case causes the difference in shades.

Anyway who cares. For those that bought a Sonic Blue like it regardless of what colour people refer it to. Those who don't like it obviously would buy another colour.

Purples...purple no matter what light you try to put it in...and that's ok..it's a great color if you like it .....I like the Redfire..and I know many don't, but that's ok...to each his own...Rock on!

PS/Sonic Blue will be a rare color in 20 years...It will look good up on the Barrett Jackson Auction block! Sort of like those Purple 70 Cudas!

Would that be hard to match in a repair? Looked at it a again, but this time at night. It's kind of wild how it looks so different under the various lights. I know the first time I saw Torch Red it was at night and it looked great, I was disappointed when I saw it in daylight, too orange for me, and the other red is too blue. We haven't seen any black, yellow, or green Mustangs yet. So far we are going Performance White all colors (we only see light not pigment).

A Lot of People Really Like Sonic Blue, I bought My 97 T-Bird because of the Color, Moonlight Blue which is very Close to Sonic, just a Shade Darker. It too has a Purple cast to it under certain Lighting, well more like a Violet Blue, or Saphire Blue!

I look at it this way, i have a Beautiful, Rich, Brilliant, Color that is more tasteful than Mystichrome, yet gives me so many hues of Blue and Purple. But doesn't cost A Thosand bucks a Pint to Re Paint like Mystichrome. I Love it, and it Draws Lots of Positive Attention. I've never had anyone say it was Ugly.

My Only Reservation is It's So hard to keep Clean, almost as bad as Black, and shows every little hairline Scratch! I have Contemplated getting Windveil Because of This, instead of Sonic. But I do Love that Sonic! It's Gonna Be a Hard Decision.

It's a three stage paint. blue base , pearl, then laser tinted clear coat. The pearl is the purple.

My 4-year old saw it first at night (420 mile drive home) and insisted for weeks that we had a purple car. Under gas station lights (sodium/flourescent?) it is a pure electric blue, bright sunlight a different, but still pure blue, but there is a hint of purple in the shadows.

It is definitely masculine, and people who say they don't like Mustangs, or even sports cars, have commented to me that they love the color.

I parked it next to my buddy's Electron Blue Corvette, and it definitely was more indigo than that, especially in the shade. Mine was the more interesting color, all around.

I guess I am a little concerned about the effect waxing will do, if there is something special about the outer coat that makes the color look good. Waxing would affect the refractive properties.

Anyone have a Sonic Blue '02,3,or 4 that they have waxed alot? Better, worse? What should I look for?

And what the heck is laser-tinted clearcoat? Does it have small aluminum or silica particles in it? Is it etched by laser?

Inquiring minds want to know.
