After 25 years at the same Dealership

My wife and I decided it was time to re-located to warmer temperatures. My wife's health is far more important and it was a very tough decision to make but I feel the timing is right. I have so many good memories and customers that I am going to miss. The car business has been VERY good to my family and I; especially this Dealership.
On Monday August 1st I told my Dealer of our decision and I could sense that while he congratulated me and thanked me for all I have done for him and his dad over the years, that he was wondering how to replace me. I don't like to brag, but I am VERY good at what I do on a day to day basis. Anyway, they have hired someone to work along side my right hand person and they will co-manage the department. My son also works for me and as of right now he is planning on staying and seeing what happens. He still has a LOT to learn about the mechanics of the business but one thing he does extremely well is take care of the customer. He works as hard as anyone to help them.
My last day will be 8/31. We have the house for sale and have just purchased a home in Humble, TX just outside of Houston. I have alrready found a new position with a Ford Commercial Truck Dealer and start in my new position on 10/1. Unfortunately I won't be able to sell Mustangs anymore since they are a truck only dealer, which as you know, I am a Commercial Truck Specialist. I am really looking forward to the opportunity there. I will still be on the boards to answer questions, etc for members since Mustangs are still a passion for me. One bright note is that I won't have to store the car for winter any more and will be able to enjoy the vert more.
I want to thank all of you for accepting me and allowing me to participate on these boards. I'll still be around but my role will be slightly changed. I've made a lot of good friends and customers through my involvement here and hopefully in a small way I have helped make a difference for some members.
I wanted to post on this thread rather than on the off topic as this is where most of my friends are lurking!

PS If anyone needs a new truck, youknow where to find me .

Good luck with the move, it sounds like it is definitely the right decision for you. Now who am I going to trust to take my out of state order? O well, I'll manage... I'll bet you increase your truck sales even higher in the new area.

Hi Ed,

I'm just one of your many unknown friends, I'm sure, here on TMS. I really enjoy reading all your postings, including all the great advise you've given to many. When you posted the piece about PATCO, I couldn't believe it had been 25 years. :-) Back then, I was a VW mechanic, studying computer programming, and also interested in becoming an Air Traffic Controller. Especially after visiting the Miami ARTCC, where a friend worked. In fact, prior to strike, I had applied for an ATC position, taken the exam, etc. Soon after Reagan fired everyone, I got the opportunity. However, after about 8 weeks or so of FAA training in OKC, I decided I didn't like it, resigned and soon afterwards became a Computer Programmer in the airline industry. I've been programming now over 21 years. I wish you and your family nothing but great success, health and happness in Humble, TX, and I look forward to staying in touch here on TMS.

Steve

Good luck in Texas, and thanks for all your help. Good thing about Texas--no income tax, bad thing about Texas--front license plate required
Best of luck to you and your family during your move.

Congratulations! That's a huge move.

Word of advice from a former Houston area Texan... remember that Humble is pronounced Umble, as the "H" is silent.

Welcome Ed. I live in Sugar Land, TX. We are on the South side of Houston and you will be on the North. So we have em surrounded. Yesterday it was a cool 97 with a feel like of 105. Leave your tire chains with your son as I promise you won't need them. If I can help you with any info about Houston, let me know.

Ed,

Best of luck my friend. Already sounds like things are working out well for you. Enjoy the warmer weather...I think I'll be following your lead in a few years. These Chicago winters are for the birds (heck, they don't even stay). Glad you'll still be hanging around here.

Ed,

Best of luck to you and yours - my sister and brother in law are moving here to Florida for many of the same reasons.....health #1 among them. Too bad you won't be down here - we always need reliable knowledgeable friends at the Ford dealerships down here! Again - good luck.

Keith

Best of luck with your move, Ed! As I read your post, I was hoping you would say that you were moving to the Charlotte, NC area (we sure could use some good salesmen around here!). I'm sure everything will work out great for you & the Mrs.

Wow.

Ed, you've done a wonderful thing for many members in this community. You've shined a ray of hope from the bleak darkness that is car sales, that there ARE descent salesmen left in this world. You were a beacon of hope for TMSers who wanted a new car, and didn't want the BS in buying one. You personally helped me get my first (and probably only) new vehicle ever. And most importantly, you've shown you are truely a descent man by giving up something you love for the greater good of your family.

I hope you pass the torch along to your son.

EDIT: If you get a chance to swing by Dayton and view the Air Force museum, make sure to get in contact with me! I can get your family a room for the night for very cheap.

Congrats Ed, hope to see you continue to post here!

If you're looking for warmer weather you're definitely coming to the right place. I'm a native Texan and even I get sick and tired of these grueling summers. We've had 36 days at or over 100 degrees (about half of those at 105+) this year and have been on water rationing for nearly 2 years. It's friggin' miserable!!
