Determine the cost of including it. (Option code 14A - Dealer $219, Dlr. inv. w/holdback $227, suggested retail $255)

Call your insurer and see if there's a discount for having it (there should be)

Divide the cost by the discount. That will tell you how many monthly payments you'll need to make for the anti-theft to pay for itself through insurance discounts.

Then you'll know what you wanna do.

If you paid full retail for it, and received a $6 monthly disount on your insurance for having it, it would pay for itself in 43 months.

I don't know about 2005 Mustangs, but theft system on my 2000 Mustang stinks. At around 22,000 miles it was just activated by itself. It costed me over $300 to get it fix + towing fee.

Active Alarm basically includes an interior motion detector and tilt alarm (for all those tow truck operators who double as car thieves)

The money you save in insurance will more than pay for the system.

I asked my insurance co about 3 weeks ago if they offered a discount for the additional alarm, and they said they said no. I guess it depends on the insurer though. Oh well. I thought it was a minimal investment for the protection offered. A lot of wires were spliced into the wiring harness on the last one I had put in and I had problems with the system. The factory install should be much cleaner.

I read in the owners manual that there are BONUS features that work on cars with the alarm system, such as rolling down the windows from the key fob when walking towards the car.

PS a previous post had a site to download the manual, what a great preview for those who took it. I think I've read thru it 3 times already!

get it, or you will be sooooorry

I believe you need the Active Anti-Theft System to be able to open and close the windows with the remote/keyless entry. Reason enough for me to get it... just another cool feature! B)

Here in Illinois, the last thing anyone needs is Lojack or whatever. Only Ferrari owners and such need it, other people just want it due to paranoia, much like those folks getting the side-impact air bags. Extra $350 option that "could" save your life, but what ARE the odds you'll need it?

Ever.

Exactly.

I may be somewhat biased but consider the following:
- system is covered by factory warranty
- system is integrated into the vehicle (i.e. no wires getting probed/spliced)
- system uses existing vehicle keyfobs
- system allows you to roll down windows with keyfobs or open and close them using the key in the driver door
- system is unique to your new Mustang and was designed for this car

In the end you're the one making the payments so buy what you can afford.

Imagine you can open the trunk remotly even withour the Active anti-theft after all no previous mustang had Active anti-theft but the remote trunk has been standard for years.

There is no way I would skip it. IUP, side airbags, anti-theft are must-haves.

You're correct. Exactly. I have no idea why anyone would not get side airbags. If not for yourself, for an innocent passenger sitting next to you.

I really don't understand why people would not get Side Airbags. Its not paranoia. People said the same things when front airbags came out. It is proven to help against injury.
