Well I haven't used it yet but seriously considering it. My dad has been driving a Ford E150 15 Passenger van and it cost him $125 to fill it up. On average he gets 350 miles to the tank.
After using 3oz of acetone to every 10 gallon of gas he got 450 to the tank.
Those vans weren't built with gas mileage a concern.
I have a 03' Volusia 800 i'm trying it on and i might consider my car next.
Anyone else heard of doing this?

read down a lil bit,and see all the injector and fuel pump failures......i wouldn t put nothing but gas in my tank.

i got ya....but look at it like this...if accetone eats paint,what is it going to do to all the orings,fuel pumps,ect in your fuel system.

You can "stick it to The Man" and get cheap uber-fuel efficiency with acetone mixed with the gasoline.

I tried it a while back in the three vehicles I owned at the time, a '98 Expedition, '01 PT and a '96 Deville. I didn't see any difference in any of them. A while latter I saw them test it on Mythbusters and it was busted. If you do try it make sure you use only 100% acetone. Allot of the acetone you find is not 100% pure and has other ingredients in it. When I initially tried it I did allot of research on the internet and many sources said that 100% pure was very important.

 

You've got to be insane to try this in your car. Acetone is nasty stuff that dissolves a wide variety of rubber and plastics. I don't think it'd be good for emissions either...

This is an old time trick that never worked. It did not work 25 years ago and it does not now.. Glad mythbusters busted it cause you will have people who *swear* it works. It truly does not.

 

I had read this mentioned when researching "browns gas" and hydrogen injection.

Does anyone have good solid info on the hydrogen injection stuff? I've read about it specifically for diesels and making a difference in MPG.

 

The whole "browns gas" thing seems to do well in carbureted vehicles. With fuel injection, you need added circuitry to fool the O2 sensors. Then of course are the issues of the "reactor" overheating, blowing fuses, or the plates corroding. As far as I'm concerned, still VERY experimental, with a TON of guys selling kits which are just that, experiments. Look at it this way: if it worked well, every garage or after market reseller would be doing installs.
I'm getting an SCT so I can do my own programming, and I'll update my gas milage when I get some data. By the way, LOTS of after market guys sell programmers, so they must work (they've been doing it for a while, so it's no short term scam).
