Anyone know if 7/70 is in addition to 3/36 standard warranty? Also, what are dealers charging for the extended warranty? Is each dealer different?

Also, once a final price is negotiated with a dealer, what other options do they try to sell you on? (besides extended warranty?)

Paint protection, carpet repeleant, extended warranty, etching vin # in windows, it's all a rip off, they were constantly pursuing the extended warranty on them until I told them pretty much to quit tacking on stupid poo or I'll give you a bad rep. The extended warranty 7/70 is not in addition to the 3/36, it's a total of 7/70.

youll pay over two grand probably for the 7/70000. And yes that is exactly what it means, 7 years old or 70000 miles on the car. You dont add it to 3/36000 to make 10/106000.

Alot of times, you're money ahead by putting that $$$ you'd spend for a warranty in the bank, and then if nothing goes wrong with the car you're not out the cost of the warranty. .....at least this is Comsumer Reports philosophy on it anyway. That $1,700 dollars does buy you some peace of mind and better sleep at night though. I decided to pass on the added $$$ of the warranty though myself.......

This is just my opinion, but with the nature of electronics and mechanics today, if something is going to go on the car, it is going to go quick...well within 3 yr/36000. If you get through your warranty, the chances of something big and costly happening (blown transmission, engine, etc.) is pretty low until you start to get some real miles on it, like 90,000+. The basic point is, if something is defective, it will probably malfunction in the first 5,000 miles. If it is not defective, it is engineered to last a long time, and usually will. I agree with the prior poster. Save your money and you will probably come out ahead in the long run.

I got the 6/60k gig. Everything is covered. All major services, etc.

The only thing I need to do to the car is tires and brake pads, and a cluth pad. Everything else is covered for the term of my loan. Was about $2k, and well worth the extra $30 a month or so.

This has been discussed extensively here. Do a search for more info. Also, do your home work on line. There are some highly rated and much cheaper alternatives. Knowledge is power, whatever you decide!

You do not have to buy this warranty when the car is new, you can in fact buy it at any time before the 3/36 runs out...just an fyi....

I got the high end 6/60 for 800 from my dealer. The 7/72 was considerably more and my finance guy didn't think it would be worth it for me based on what I told him I would be driving the car. My dealer was cool and didn't try and sell me anything extra, so it wasn't a hard decision about all the extra junk they usually try and get you for

I paid $1500 for the 7/70 when I bought the car ( had to pay MSRP so I guess the dealer took pity on me ). I never buy extended warrantee, but I had a moment of weakness when thinking about a Newly designed 300hp car. One nice thing about the warrantee is that it garuntees you a loaned car if the yours is in for warrantee repaires.

However, I am in the process of canceling it as I want to add the Saleen supercharger (400hp on only 5psi of boost and a built in water to air intercooler ) and that more or less ends the factory drive train warrantee....

I added painted on stripes so the paint warrantee has alread gone bye bye...

Of course, it still does cover the stereo and all of the other electronics, so it might still be worth it.... I'll get a little over $1000 back.....

Just four more K ( raised off the wife's radar screen ) and that Saleen SC is mine.....

Rich,
Unaware that Ford is offering 2 warranties options. 6/60 or 7/70? Is there that much variation in what dealers are charging as you mention 2k for the 6/60?

I'm inclined to go with some warranty, just not sure which one. I declined on my 92 and as soon as the factory warranty ended, several issues popped that could have otherwise been covered.

I review more on these forums on the issue.

Here is Ford's Extended Service Plan website.

http://www.fordwarrantys.com/index.c...action=pricing

This is what Ford recommends the prices to be, but they are like your car, you can deal on them. Dealers do not pay full list price for them.

I never buy those extended warranties they are total rip off, and its rare to use that extended warranty. Instead - put that money into the bank and earn interest on it and use it for when, IF ever, you end up breaking the car.

I bought the max coverage. I've delt with too many high cost repairs which would have paid for the extended warranty two-fold.

For me, its piece of mind. Whenever there's a problem, I'm going to bring it in and hand them the keys and say "JUST FIX IT".

Right now the car looks like its going to be very reliable. But you never know. I personally understand why you would and wouldn't want to buy the warranty.

As far as "Waist of Money"......... Lets let 6-7 years pass and take a poll. Its to early to say.... I know statistics show that more often than not, the car company profits. But its like insurance, you probably won't get into an accident, but if you do, you're in deep crap.

Extended warranties are like insurance policies. The best insurance agents sell fear....that's why people buy it. I'll bring this car back for repairs as often as necessary within the 3/36. After that, it's mine for good or it's history.

Talking

Simple!
After warranty expires, It's time to get dirty and learn how to fix it yourself!
I have done that, since my first drive! If you drive it, fix it! Can't fix it, time to sell it! Most cars today seem complicated to repair, but with all the information and guides. Plus with all the support here, there is alot of help! That what this car thing is all about and it's been in my blood for some 40 yrs. Buying a Mustang GT is an experience, fixing it yourself is another!
Happy Trails!!! B)
