Well I am ticked with my self tonite  - finally gave in to someone hounding me to go fast..:bang: a 1966 comet convertible- .. hot rodded out, Sweet looking car - obviously cared for and a very fast car.

On a positive note he couldnt catch me, took him from the line and steadly and slowly pulled away. In the end I manage to take him by about 12 car lengths at the end of 1/2 mile straight country road. we hit about 100 I lost track at that point cause I was watching the road

on a negative note - I took the rpms up too high in second and found the 6200 rpm rev limiter - engine suddenly spooled down and dropped off - I immediately hit 3rd and the engine jump back online.. thank god for the idiot monitor...

I feel really bad - and hopefully I did nothing evil to the engine.
Car sounded and performed fine afterwards. Truth is I have never hammered like that on the car before... and I wont do it again.... :nono:

no not really Its been about 15 yrs since I was in a car that could race - used to race with my 1988 conquest tsi all the time..

I just wasnt paying attention at the time to my rpms... I was watching the other guy and the road and didnt realise I had rapped out the car since I hadnt really gotten on it until now. I have to put it down to inexperience with the mustangs v8 and its engine sound.. I know now though..wont happen again..

As the poster said before me. No big deal. That's what the car is suppose to do. It protects it self from injury. The trick is to get to know your car and shift right before the rev limiter kicks in. Once that thing kicks in, it messes you up for a sec. I hate that feeling of the rev limiter kickin in. It slows ya down!!

I hit it daily, don't worry, it's set pretty conservative.

As was said above, hitting the rev limiter on a naturally-aspirated (no nitrous, turbo or superchargers) is fine - that's what it's there for. I haven't hit mine, but that's because it's an auto.

its actually cool sometimes because it seems the car surprises even the driver by hitting the limiter so fast. our 05's are a little rough up until about 3500 rpm, then in a flash they are at 6000!! fun fun cars!

I've hit mine a few times, 6200Rpm is probably a pretty safe limit so I'm sure it is ok.

I even left in in 3rd gear an redlined it because I was trying to see if I needed 4th gear in the 1/4 mile, It was so close that I'm still not sure.

Ah well more testing required

I've kind of taken to dropping my auto into 3rd manually before I pass someone on the freeway. Does the rev limiter protect me in case I accidentally either drop all the way to 2nd, or forget to upshift to 4th? That's good news if true. I've never experienced the rev limiter..

its an unpleasant feeling when it kicks in , especially the first time you experience it - I dont recommend it for the faint hearted... I felt guilty as all $%S#$S#...

I hit the limiter in 1st trying a 0-60 run. It definitely feels like the car has plenty more above that line. Just try to remember that with stock (3.55) gears its like 40-70-90. Those are the approximates I use anyways.

Rev limiter hurts absolutely nothing at all, its there to protect you.

And why buy the car if you wont ever 'drive it like' that again? :P

I hit the rev limiter 1 time on the demo car I tested before buying mine, I just wanted to know where the redline was, but I never looked down at the tach !

I was just so supprised by the acceleration in 2nd

yeah dont worry man, i am always bouncing off the rev limiter.

i wonder where is that one video of that silver 05 doing a huge brakestand burnout in the parking lot with all those people, then he does one in reverse. you could hear that one hitting the rev limiter non-stop.

i just wish it wouldnt hit the rev limiter so quickly. it stinks when you dump the clutch in 1st and smoke the tires and it wraps out so quick and bounces off the rev limiter. i want to be able to ride it out into second, where it doesnt lose power by hitting the limiter. its hard to control this electronic throttle, its seems like its all or none, so i am always hitting the limiter. thats just me though, maybe i just have a huge lead foot! lol.

The first time I hit the rev limiter was getting onto the interstate. Scared the heck out of me. I was in second accelerating through 4000 RPM and the next thing I knew it felt like the car cut out on me...

My question is, why is the redline on my tach at 7000 if it won't let me go that high?

My opinion: I don't think the rev limiter will help you if you drop it into 2nd at speed. All it does is cut the fuel to the engine. If the wheels and trans are turning the engine, cutting the fuel won't keep it from going past the rev limiter. Be careful!

I did the same thing. Was at a light on a deserted stretch of highway at about 1am. Light turned green and I accellerated normally. Looked left and noticed a sweet 300C next to me who took off pretty quickly. So I stepped on it a bit to catch up and take a look at his car; he thought I was trying to race and started accellerating faster. I casually gave my car more gas just enough each time to stay with him. Then I said heck with this, down shifted to 3rd.. hammer down. I was just beginning to pass him when I hit the fuel cut off and the engine just went silent and the nose dropped. I quickly upshifted and looked at the speedo, it said 105 or about there and I brought her back down. No idea I was going that fast or that I'd hit the cut off that quickly.

This car rocks!!
