5 Month Wait and Now It's in the Shop
As many of you know, I picked up my V6 Windveil Blue last weekend after a wait of 5 months and 1 week. Got it home, put a few miles on it (love the car!) and Saturday night it started leaking fluid. Initially we thought it might be brake fluid. The leak was very sporadic. We drained some of the brake fluid out of the resevoir (sp?) but that didn't help. Took in yesterday to the dealer and the master cylinder is being replaced today. Dealer called this afternoon and it will be back in our hands tomorrow.
After waiting for so long for the car, the last thing I want to do is have it is in the shop.

I think you will find that most of them do leak to some degree...Every 2005 Mustang I've looked at has had some brake fluid on the outside of the bottle.. all the ones at the car show had it..the ones at the dealers had it... Mine too.. I've even had the cap replaced but it still leaks..I've looked at all the pic's posted of everyone cars with the hood up and i find some fluid on theres as well..The dealer even took some of the fluid out thinking it might be to full but it didnt help.. let us know if the new bottle helps yours

Master Cylinder Leak - From Cap, If anyone hears a fix or have had theirs fixed with a new cap - let me know. Otherwise might as well keep wiping it off and checking fluid.
Built @ APril 1st 2005, received APril 28th.

Master Cylinder still leaking around cap, just a little to be annoying , level still good.
Does anyone know if a new cap fixes the problem?
I am hoping as fluid goes down a little it will stop, appears that master cylinder may have been overfilled.. Now over 1000 miles still occurring

Hi Martin, actually the Master Cylinder was replaced a few weeks ago. No problems since the dealer replaced it.
However, today I was on 60 after work and again the brakes started to squeak after being hot, much like Saturday. I don't think they squeak cold but I guess I'll have to turn the radio down to be sure
I'll have to check tomorrow. I'll probably get a 'list' together before bringing back to the dealer. The brakes will definitely be on there to be looked at!

I used teflon (plumbing tape) around the threads and it hasn't leaked anymore...

My friends 2001 escape had this same problem, they did however release a revised cap, and that fixed it. hasn't leaked since.
Mine was leaking too they replaced the cap and that seemed to help for about a week. Then it started leaking more and they could not determine where it was coming from. They then replaced the master cylinder etc and no leaks any more.
Mine has the same problem too. Only 450 miles on the clock. I thought it may of happened during transportation but now that I see this thread I realize it's an actucal problem. Ford had a similar problem with the Explorer or F150 and had a MAJOR recall notice on it. Brake fluid was leaking onto the exhaust headers and causing fires. Hopefully Ford will issue a TSB on this issue. Until then, I like the Teflon tape idea.
