Im with Tom on this one no GM engine in a ford ever. whats erong with 300hp? your fully dressed block weights 421lbs, that 455 probably weights close to 1000 for the money or fabricating any modern day car to fit that would be less than forged internals and a blower

If I bought a S197 fully working, then there's no way on God's green Earth, I'd do that...but if I found a shell, or chassis, that's what I was talking about.

Well geez Bryan in all fairness to Stangmahn it would appear you yourself are Stangless at the moment too.

He's an 18 year old kid dreaming about his first Mustang. I say more power to him I have no doubt he'll get it someday.

True.

Maybe when my '08 arrives I'll swap its 4.6 with the F22 in my S2000.

I guess it hit home for me in that my program in college was seven years long (what was I thinking?!) and wanting a Mustang baaaad was always a motivation to finish. I had no car for the first 5 yrs and then a 1972 Buick Skylark for the last 2. What a car!!!

Sorry to hijack the thread, I will digress now

Gaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..................... ..!

okay, felt a disturbance in the force, it was like 300 ponies crying out then silenced, However since you wanted to know, yes a Boss 429 (since thee DOHC 5.4 and Boss 429 are about the same width) will fit in the engine bay of an S197 Mustang, y'know I almost thought you said Buick there for a moment.

that 455 is probably a bit lighter, say more like 600 to 670 lbs, the B-O-P engines (well thats sorta wrong to say, but they are constructed using similar technology) are lighter than a Chevy big block, Chevy's big block is the mack daddy of the GM big engine group, IIRC even Caddy's 500+ CID engines are lighter than Chevy's big-block.

Now this is me mind you, but if I was gonna build a large displacement V8 for the current chassis. I would opt for a nice 427 toi 460 CID small block using a set of of cylinderheads from these guys http://www.chiheads.com/4v_228cc.php . with a nice single plain intake converted to fuel injection. Tons of room and EASILY a 500 + hp engine on pump gas and lighter than a GT500 to boot.

There are guys putting SBCs into Mustangs and I think THAT is a stupid idea. THIS blows out the spaz-o-mometer.

Don't do it, it's a boat anchor.
