4.10's ... What about replacing entire axle?
4.10's ... What about replacing entire axle?
I ran across this for sale on newtakeoff. Its a GT rear axle with 4.10's in it already.

It's 929 dollars. Which is really steep for a set of gears. I was thinking though if you bought the axle all preassembled and setup from Ford I think you would have a better chance of getting the 4.10's without the whining. If you dont like the 4.10's you could always drop your old 3.55 axle back in. Just an idea. I hate that I cant install my own gears. Its like one of the only things I cant do. I was looking originally for a 3.55 axle so I could practice setting up 4.10's in it and still have a backup axle.

Wow, that's a lot of dough. It's not THAT hard to setup a set of gears so they don't whine. It's also not as horribly difficult to setup a set of gears as people think. If you take your time you can do it yourself. You might need to pull it apart a couple of times to get it right, but it's not rocket science. I used to keep the gears on my original carrier and install my new ring gear on a take-off (or new) carrier so it would be a very simple matter to swap in your old set if the mood strikes you. Just keep tabs of how the stock unit was shimmed.
I don't know if this is from ford or not. It might be a modded 8.8 with low miles. If it is from ford consider it a good deal because I paid around 800 for my gear install (400 labor, 200 gears, 120 install kit, 50 lube) and it made noise from the beginning. Now the thing is junk after racing on it. With this setup you can at least switch back to stock in an hour or two of work.
It was at the Newtakeoff website.

I see it's only $40 less than the 4.10's, not a couple hundred.
Unfortunately I have the 3.31 gears (auto).

Since stangs don't come with either 3.73s or 4.10s they're probably swapping the gears themselves which means...who knows if they're setup right or not? I don't really think it's a good deal by the time you factor in shipping and your time to swap axles.
