After reading this order guide carefully, I am utterly amazed. If you want the 3.55 rear end on a stick GT... you gotta pay for 'em! Yeppir, optional. You're kidding me right?

So I got to wondering. Why would Ford do this? I could only come up with two reasons.

1. To raise the EPA highway mileage (by what? .5 mgp???) so their 'fleet average' would increase.

2. A slick way to raise the price of a GT without raising the price. Who here among us would knowingly take an '07 GT with 3.31 gears when the two previous model years (with manual transmissions) had 3.55's?

Am I being a putz? Somebody tell me I'm a whiner... And lastly, what dealer with half a brain would place an order for a stick GT without bumping up the 3.31 to 3.55??? Who?

This rant proudly brought to you by the crew at TMS!

Since I'm not a gearhead... which gear ratios are better? And which ones are coming stock in the 2007 versus what comes stock in a 2006?

I don't know, the dealer guide states that the 3.31 gear is standard across ALL Mustang trim levels for 2007 and there is an order code for the 3.55 gear. I think it IS optional, and not standard, on GT manual for 07MY.

Boomer, you really ought to read what you post. Your attachment states the 3.55 is optional on the manual GT.

Sure does like look it's now optional for the GT Manual Transmission only. Why else would there be a separate order code? It's order code 455.

However, if you look at page 4, it does not state that the 3.31 is standard on the GT manual ???

Yeah, it's very confusing but considering they have a separate code, I believe it is indeed optional.

Personally - I don't they changed anything from the '05/'06 transmission selections. I wish that 4.10 was an option

its a "nice thought' to think that optional gears would be available like 3:90's 4:10's, etc but IMO the 5 speed has and will continue to have the 3:55

maybe it is optional since most of us are swapping out the gears anyway. 4.10's from factory would have been a sweet option.

Just because there is a code for 3.55 and 3.31, the 3.31 is locked to automatic and 3.55 is locked to manual

just like you can't get ICAP without getting IUP

Agreed, the 410's are a sweet mod for sure, but to say that most of us are swapping them out, seems to me to be an overstatement,,, I think just the opposite is true, I think most of us still have the 355 orig gearset.

AFAIK, there isn't a code for 3.31s. Also, I don't think your example is relevant since both ICAP and IUP are options and the manual tranny is standard equipment. If the 3.55s are locked to the manual tranny, it wouldn't have a separate code since it would also be standard equipment.

I see what you guys are saying...

But from the pic I posted,
its weird because under the 'standard' 3.31s... manual GT is not found under that list. Only GT AUTO, and V6 manual/auto.

The way I see it, its a mistake, and it would be like all other years.
I can't see them stepping back, and its not seen in any of the 'new changes for 07'
