2008 Mustang GT 5spd - weight
2008 Mustang GT 5spd - weight
I weighed my 2008 GT Prem with a 5 spd manual yesterday on the Etown scales. With alittle over a half tank of fuel, about 5-10 lbs of misc crap in the trunk, the factory wheels back on her for winter, and my fat butt in the drivers seat she came in at 3610 lbs.
I weigh in around 225-230 lbs, so take me and the crap out of the equation.. she weighs 3370-3380lbs with 1/2 tank of fuel.
Mods in sig, though I'm probably a wipe on savings vs added weight.

Hmmm. I weighed my bone stock '08 5spd at HRP in Houston last week and it was 3505 without me in it and 1/2 tank. And I've got the base model without all the frills (shaker, etc.). Wonder what the difference is? That's 125 lbs.
I weighed my old 06 GT at Mason Dixon Dragray a couple years ago and it was 3,630 with me in it. I weighed 175 at the time, so that would put it at 3,455. I had about 3/4 tank of gas and the spare in the trunk... full daily driver mode. My car was a Deluxe with cloth interior, only options being Shaker 500, spoiler delete, Active Anti-theft, and IUP. It was a stick car too.

BTW the stinger axe backs do save a lot of weight. I remember some post where it states the stock mufflers weighting 22 ish LBS while the stingers weight like 10 lbs or 6 lbs. Don't remember exactly but that is about 20+ lbs of weight saving switching to stingers from stock. Correct me if im wrong.
I have a set of Longacre corner scales out in my shop. Right after I bought my '08 GT, when it was still bone stock, I filled it up with gas and weighed it, and it came in at 3491 lbs with no driver, the only options on my premium package GT are the 3.55 gears and spoiler delete. I removed the spare tire and floor mats, and jack, and it went down to 3452 lbs. If you calculate out what a half tank of gasoline weighs, it would take the weight down to 3400 lbs even with exactly half a tank of gas. I also weighed my '01 Bullitt the same day, and with a full tank (stock except for Koni shocks and an Eibach front sway bar) it weighed 3383 lbs, and 3348 lbs with no spare, floor mats, or jack.
FWIW I weighed my stock mufflers when I took them off and replaced them with the SLP Loudmouths. The stock mufflers weighed 30.4 lbs (for both), and the SLP's were 13.9 lbs, for a weight savings of 16.5 lbs. I was a little surprised when I weighed the Bullitt grille vs the stock GT grille, and found the light-less Bullitt grille was only half a pound lighter.

how do you figure the 07's weight 125 lbs more then an 06? Whats different?
I created a thread a while back stating the difference in weight between 05-06 vs 07+ models. 07+ models have more steel reinforcement to accomodate the gt500 engine. One of the guy work at ford and he state what was in their fact book.
I believe there is a slight increase in weight from 2006 to 2007, but the real world numbers just don't bear out your claim of 125 lbs. Many people have weighed their S197 Mustangs, and that 125 lb figure just does not ring true. Mine came in at a true curb weight of 3491 lbs as delivered from the factory, full fluids and no driver, which means a 2006 with the same options would only have weighed 3366 lbs, that's lighter than my 2001 Bullitt.

Straight from the Ford Sourcebooks...
GT Coupe Manual Trans:
- 2005-2006 = 3,356 lbs
- 2007-2008 = 3,483 lbs (a gain of 127 lbs per Ford)
- 2005-2006 = 3,540 lbs
- 2007-2008 = 3,532 lbs (a reduction of 8 lbs per Ford)
Not interesting at all, as it is an apples to oranges comparison, unless 2kanchoo was weighing a completely stock car. He has a lot of mods listed for his car, some add weight, some take it away, he also doesn't list all of the options on his car, and had a half tank of gas, which weighs 50-55 lbs. All of those things will change the weight.

I got this from a thread I started a while ago. One of our forum member stated this.

yea I don't think its correct either. Id say all thre S197's are within a few pounds of respective versions no matter what year it is.. There was no extra 127 lbs worth of steel for the 5.4 motor installed.. I think that was someones opinion not based on facts.
