2007 Mustang won't start

When I put the keys in the ignition, just before I turn it over to start, there is a slight noise in the rear under the car (maybe around the axle). Sounds like it's locking up. Any ideas, and how serious is this? Of course, the car won't start. Thank you for your help!

the noise your hearing would be the fuel pump, as far as your car not starting
is it not turning over or is it turning over and not cranking, if it's turning over and no start then try another programmed key.

Wink Tell us more

Don't worry about the fuel pump noise.
Is it cranking at all? Is there a clicking noise?
It must have some power to move the pump. What else comes on?
Do you drive it daily? If not the battery could be low.

Do your headlights come on like normal? Does your car have an alarm on it?? How many miles are on it??? My guess is bad or low battery.

If its a manual ( 5-speed) Check the Clutch safety switch. Mine went out in my 07. Its a little black switch on the clutch pedal that has a plunger that goes in and makes contact to start. You can just pull it off and jumper the 2 wires but the car will start without the clutch push in.
