yuck! So their making these body panels to replace the mustangs beautiful curves and make it look ugly? The old avantis were cool and unique, but this is just a horrible representation.

For a while, they were building these on the F bodies.

I guess there's a buyer for everything out there, but IMHO, the Avanti style has been milked dry...I think it's time they put this one to bed - I don't think they can improve on the original.

Couldn't agree more, the Avanti is so played. Why would any car company want to trot out 40 year old sheet metal (the irony of that statement is not lost on this retro "inspired" '06 Mustang GT owner).

Anyway, check out this Studebaker innovation, the original XUV?

. The design integrity of the original is lost on this version. It looks cobbled together. Raymond Loewy must be turning in his grave about now...

I drove for Avanti Motors back in the late 80's. We drove brand new Avanti's to the Chicago Railyards off Roosevelt. $25 and a meal, you go as fast or slow as you want. We would take 4 new cars up and somebody would drive the chase car (Paxton powered Avanti serial # 3 off the line when it was still owned by Studabaker) to bring us home. We did this part time when I was a South Bend FireFighter.

So, how much money is involved here? I think it looks sorta like the original.

Ugly as sin, but I sort of like the interior treatment.

I think it looks kind of cool. IMHO it looks better than the original Avanti, which if you've seen one lately really has old looking proportions. Also looks a lot better than those rectangular headlamp models. But I won't be spending my $$ on one, it's not that cool.

Why?
Just because you have a name and a style doesn't mean you need to use it.

Maybe they like the cold weather we've been having in CA the past few days ? It was 25 degress up here in NorCal yesterday AM, for those of you in other parts of the country who think we are warm all year.

Seriously, though, maybe there was an Avanti club cruising around this weekend or something ?
