2006 steering wheel mistake
2006 steering wheel mistake
I Own a 2006 GT Premiun with an interior upgrade package. If I'm wrong please tell me, The steering wheel with the upgrade package should have the brushed Aluminun look spokes. Well my car has a standard steering wheel. The rest of this package is in the car. I have had the car for a little over a year and just noticing this. Has this happened to anyone else? What should I do leave it or try to get my dealer to make it right?
Thanks GG

Was it factory ordered? If not, it sounds like the dealer swapped your steering wheel to fix another car.
The IUP / Sport Appearance Package / Premiere Trim wheel should be leather wrapped with 3 plastic painted aluminum spoke covers that clip onto the steering wheel.
The base trim wheel is dark charcoal plastic all over, without any holes in the spokes to take the plastic painted aluminum spoke covers, and there's no leather wrapping for the wheel itself.

Head over to your dealer and get the wheel swapped over. If you have dated photographs showing that you had the wrong wheel from the start, it would bolster your case but the fact you have the rest of the IUP should be enough to convince them.
Man I'd have noticed that right away! The regular plastic steering wheel is one of the main reasons I wanted the IUP. It looks and feels like a cheap riding lawn mower steering wheel without the aluminum trim and leather cover. Makes a huge visual and tactile differance imo.
Take it to the dealership!

Just because it's "unique" doesn't make it worth a lot of money. If it isn't desirable, than it isn't worth anything. There are some color combos of the 05's that were 1 of 4 made, but they are combos don't look "right" (ie-silver with tan interior and black top; or, white with tan interior and black top)
In fact, I would recommend getting it replaced, or just buy a new on off ebay or KC. If it isn't replaced, someone down the road is going to ask, "why is the wrong steering wheel on the car", which could lead to more issues.

Mike, i'm sure Glenn was kidding with his remark.
Anywho, suprised it took you over a year to discover that....good luck convincing the dealer to swap out your steering wheel.
I remember when i ordered my F-150 pick up truck back in '89, it was delivered on a Friday evening. I was so excited to get it that i just jumped in and took off. Later that night, the truck just didn't feel right so i opened the hood and to my amazement, there was a 4.6L engine sitting there instead of the 5.0L i had ordered. So, i drove it over the weekend and returned it on Monday morning with my order sheet. Sure enough, another truck was ordered and that one was sold as a demo. I remember seeing that truck about 5 years later. It felt kinda weird parking next to it with my current truck. (Of course my truck had a better life and still looked new)

yup, you definitly got the wrong one. It surprises me that you didnt notice for so long but I would take it to the dealer and they should make it right. I have seen a couple of other odd cars like this, I think I saw a Shelby with a regular IUP steering wheel.
Good luck with the dealer.
Good luck with the dealer.
not just missing aluminum spokes but also the upgraded wheel is leather wrapped (which is very nice by the way). Definately get it replaced...
But, I think that part of the IUP option was the leather steering wheel with aluminum inserts
The IUP would include the leather wrapped wheel with plastic aluminum spoke covers (unique IUP steering wheel). The PREMIUM GT comes with standard leather seating, while the DELUXE GT (base) has optional leather seats.
The steering wheel in the photograph is the base steering wheel used on the non-IUP, non-Sport Appearance Package, and non-Premiere Trim package Mustangs (what I have).
The IUP wheel is $151, while the non-IUP wheel is $120-$130.

IUP was a different option than leather. If you have a "base" GT, I think you could still get the IUP, but it had cloth seats. I believe the "premium" GT's came with leather included as part of it's package. But, IUP was still an adder over top of those.

Good luck getting the correct wheel.
I think I found your steering wheel.
