2006 Production Info

Thanks Mark and Brad. The production info is really interesting.
Do you happen to know what "drives" the production numbers for colors, V6s, GTs, Coupes, and Convertibles? There are 40 combinations listed.
Does Ford do market research to arrive at the best "guess-ti-mate" of how many Mustangs to produce for each category? For example, did the increase in the number of GTs produced in 2006 happen because there were potential Mustang GT buyers who walked out of Dealerships disappointed because they could not buy a Mustang GT in 2005?
Did Ford guess that there would be just a little more demand for Torch Red instead of Redfire for example?
Now that Alloy is being offered, do Ford executives think, "Hey, maybe we shouldn't make 20% of our Mustangs black"? My thinking would be that some folks interested in buying a black Mustang might think that Alloy looks great also and is easier to keep clean. So maybe Ford would produce fewer black Mustangs?
As I understand it, for 2008, Candy Apple Red is being offered and Redfire is no longer offered. How does Ford decide how many Candy Apple Red Mustang GT Convertibles to produce?
Are the numbers for each of the 40 categories changed considerably during the production run based upon advance orders from customers? We ordered our Redfire Mustang GT Convertible with an automatic.
Were you surprised by anything in these production numbers?
I was a little surprised by the increase in the number of GTs produced and sold in 2006 (a 10% increase!). I think I remember reading somewhere that historically the ratio of V6s to V8s have been about 2 to 1 for Mustangs and Pony cars in general. Is that true?
Hope I'm not annoying you with too many questions. I find this stuff interesting. Thanks in advance for your answers and opinions.

I'm just guessing here but Ford probably uses historical data on the popularity of colors for planning. Also as private citizens order cars (vice dealer orders), it probably gives an indication what is popular. Sorry, I dont' have any inside info on how Ford decides these things.
I'm surprised that black is so popular. As the previous owner of 3 black cars, it's just too hard to keep looking clean. Also, I have found that Sonic and Vista Blue cars are much more popular on TMS than in the general population.
Spreadsheet from a member that used to compile data on TMS member's 2005 + 2006 cars. Data entries stopped in January 2006.

Mark, thanks for your feedback and the tms 05-06 STATS.xls spreadsheet. Yes, black Mustangs are popular even though they are difficult to keep looking clean. Even higher % on TMS (20.8%). My first car was "Black Beauty". A '61 Dodge Lancer with a slant 6 engine and a 3 speed on the floor. Had her while I was in the Air Force. Kalispell Air Force Station (now decommissioned), a Radar Site in Montana. I was a Radar Repairman - 30352. Great little car BTW. Slant 6's ran forever.
GTs on TMS are a really high %. And as you pointed out, Sonic and Vista Blue Mustangs are more popular on TMS than in the general population.
So I'm wondering if color production is not driven by consumer demands entirely? I mean, you've got to select from what's offered. And that changes the percentages. If Redfire was not available to me, what color would I have chosen? Maybe "Air Force Blue".
