Wow, this topic came from left field.

I'll try to answer this....... I'm definatley buying it because its a mustang, but the name alone doesn't win me over.

As far as a Japanese mustang......

I am buying based on the overall reputation of the Mustang, and lets not forget the V-8 growl. I am tring to escape the purrrrr of a Japanese engine.

I would buy it. Honestly, I prefer GM. However, I like the mustang because there are not many (None IMO) other cars in its price/performance/style bracket. I also think camaros are butt ugly and would never own one over a mustang.

Corvettes on the other hand

Well, Toyota did a fairly decent copy of a 7/8 scale Mustang with the mid-70s Celica Liftback:

Of course, it wasn't called a Mustang, but it did sell pretty well.

Mustang is supposed to be the American ICON right? So I would say no, I guess I like the Ford brand overall. It is funny you bring this up, you kind of scared me when I first saw the title of the topic, being that on blueovalnews.com they had a topic saying that there was supposed to be some big news in regards to Ford and Toyota. Thank god is not this, whew.

I have a 1969 mustang and want to park my 05 next to it. 1. I don't know of many Toyota's that people spend a lifetime rebuilding, restoring, or racing. 2. "Mustang is supposed to be the American ICON right?" 3. USA+FORD = MUSTANG 4. Besides, I think it'll be pretty cool having the same model car 35 years apart. I don't think there are any foreign cars out there that people go to car shows, events or forums to talk about. My .02's.

I'm buying the car for may different reasons... I like American icons -especially V8s :usa:
I've owed several different Jeeps, a Mustang for a very brief period, always wanted a Vette, T-Bird or Eldorado. Even considered Harleys, Indians & Buells.

-They won't put a V8 in a Wrangler -believe me I've tried everything short of HESCO or AEV...
-Caddy killed the Eldo'.
-Refused to pay 10k over MSRP for a T-Bird -and now wouldn't want one even @ 10k under invoice!
-The Vette was almost a done deal -even had the allocation timed for museum delivery... but backed out.
-Gave-up on bikes after 4 bad incidents happened to co-workers

If the Mustang was made by anyone other than the big 3, I wouldn't bother!
