I live in San Diego, Ca and just now on T.V. was a comercial about an SDS mustang. It was about 15 secs long and said own one of 200 hundred of these limited edition mustangs! It showed an '05 GT with IUP and the xxx-of-200, then the exterior was black with whit stripes. It finished with come and get one at your local San Deigo Ford dealership today. Does any one know anything about this?????? I did a search on this site and came up with nothing. Just curious.

I've never seen anything about it. Sounds like a dealership corporation, like Hall Auto or POMOCO or some other kind of car group that you are probably more familiar with, is buying Mustang GT's and then modifying them. Kinda like the Stallion back in 1967. Check Brad's Timeline for more info on that.

Sounds like a few dealers are adding stripe kits and calling them a special edition.

Beware of the "special edition" price

There is a local dealership doing the same kind of thing here. They are putting on stripes and wheels and calling them a "special edition" model. It's sad really.

Encinitas Ford has one, I am not sure what it is, and I am almost positive they wont either, but I will stop by tomorrow and take some pics and figure it out, I was told about this from a friend yesterday, they said they had one that had this badging and I thought they were just mistaking since my friends are always mixing up the V6 with the GT, but I guess they were right. We will see.

Ok, Im back...heres the deal, it looks like they are V6s with cheasy stripes done on the top, that dont run down either bumper and SDS badging on the quarter panels, the big deal they are preaching is that it has the IUP and are manuals and are serialized *** out of 200....oooh ahhhh, this must have been the extra stangs SD was getting that I was seeing in recent comercials...and for just over 25 grand its definately a scam that I guess all the dealerships in SD are in on....anyway here are the pics....

I will go back and take more pics during the day on my way into work and I will ask what the deal is....

Standard Vehicle Price.....20,090.00
5 Speed Auto.................. 995.00
SDS Edition.................... 995.00
YADA YADA YADA
Total MSRP......................23,870.00

Then somehow they lose $270 and MSRP is 23,600
SDS Edition 25 of 200
10% Dealer Markup 2,360

There is some deal here in MI a V-6 made up to look like a GT with additional custom Fascias, rockers and poor vinyl stripes with 20" wheels and they are numbering them 1 thru 250. I forgot the name they are calling them, because it did not interest me.

The above is aside from all V-6's that are dressed up.

The one real GT vert on one lot has REAL GT on the windsheild. LOL

yeah I when I was at Encinitas Ford last night taking those pics I noticed that they had about 20 V6s and these 2 SDSs and no GTs, I havent seen a GT on the lot in soooooooo long, last one I saw that was a coupe was going for 36,000.00. And a lot of the dealers around here are making their V6s look like GTs, this is lame I think.

The dealership I got my car from had 10 "custom" Mk III V6 Mustangs on their lot, asking price was 29,900!! I actually talked to a vounger guy who bought one... Said it's "faster" than the GT he drove. Oh yea, and they have "true dual exhaust" where the exhaust leaves the engine and goes to 2 seperate cats, then merges to one pipe, then splits again for the dual axle-back setup. They don't even have grille fogs or any kind of upgraded interior (IUP, leather, etc)... I made sure to announce to everyone that my GT cost me $4500 less. stupid "market value adjustments"...

I went by on my way into work but couldnt stay long, I was running late, I got out and asked what an SDS was, the guy said it was a rare limited edition stang that was only being sold in San Diego, called San Diego Special, then he asked if I wanteed to trade in my GT for it, I laughed and he said that a limited SE would be more valuable then my car would be in the future, I laughed again, then asked what was so special....

they are all V6s, w/ silver stripes that are vinyl and real cheaply done, looks more like one of those magnet things you stick on your car because it has a very raised edge, they also have a really cool chrome exhaust tip and doesnt say mustang on the side (like you cant get a V6 without it), and has the letters SDS on the front fenders made out of cheap plastic clear wheel well molding crap....oh my and there will be only 200 of them...wow well worth the extra 3000 they want for it.

Then I asked how SD got so lucky...he said "because we're cool like that" and then I asked if this was done by the dealership or was it something offered through Ford, he said through Ford, so I asked "so then these will come with documentation that they are a numbered car of a special limited series and are certified?" and his response was "yes its on the window sticker...." I again laughed and said man you guys are a either really stupid or a bunch of con artists...I guess SDS really stands for Stupid Dumbarse stinker for buying one.

I know where you can get #1 and #2 at.

Apparently this is from Ford, but I even talked with a salesman I know, and he thinks it is pretty crappy. the ones I know of are different.

The worst thing is the stripes aren't even painted. I'll keep my GT.
