I was just over there at blue oval news and read the same thing.

Old news.
I was thinking of sending a letter to bill ford. but I haven't received my password for the forums. He has an open letter there.

They have never been unsafe. 50+mph rear collision test? It looks like the car held up pretty well. heck one gallon? thats it? I think its pretty good myself for one of the most unlikely crash senarios, getting hit 50mph in the rear perfectly square by an object that does not deform hitting it.

The 2005 Stang fuel tank is under the rear seat, ahead of the rear axle. All stangs build prior to the 2005 have the tank behind the rear axle, which is a more vunrable location.

If you get rear ended by someone traveling 100 MPH, your tank will probably blow up even in a 2005 Stang. But you have nothing to worry about because you will be dead from the 100 MPH impact long before the gas tank explodes.

The point being that there never has been and NEVER will be a vehicle that can protect you from every possible accident situation. It is absolutely impossible to engineer and sell a vehicle that is 100% safe within the consumer price envelope.

In spite of BONs and other media's sensationalism of crashes involving FoMoCo vehicles, overall over the last 20 years Ford has built some of the safest and highest rated vehicles in terms of crash safety.

The 2005 Mustang is heavily based off the Lincoln LS, which has a 5 star safety rating. I don't think that you have anything to worry about Tom_v.

Its actually much better engineered then the DEW platform, they only used front rails and floorboards for the front seats from it. BON gets on my nerves a lot of the time, there is no refference point for any of the sensationalism. Its as annyoing as trying to objectively listen to a campaign 'promise' from John Kerry. Nails on chalkboard.

I had a 77 pinto so I consider anything safe these days. Heck, they could put the gas tank on the outside of the new stang and I'd say it was safer than my pinto.

Which is almost as annoying as trying to get any truthful statements out of George W. Bush and his "Project for the New American Century" administration.

And what's with Zell Miller?! In his post-speech CNN interview, I couldn't tell if he was on crack or just suffering from dementia.

Don't even get me started...!

I say delete this whole topic -- the pic is sooooo obviously old news as is the overall topic of exploding gas tanks, especially since it's on a way previous generation Stang which I'm shocked the poster didn't notice. Oh well
