As hard as it is for me to believe they said this, here is the exact email I received from Ford when I asked them to provide 2005 production numbers by category, color, options, etc.

Who should we ask.................GMC?

Dear Randy,

Thank you for contacting the Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center regarding the 2005 Ford Mustang.

We are unable to provide you with the production number for your vehicle at this time. Once vehicle orders are received at the assembly plant, it is at the discretion of the plant in what order the vehicles will be built. The key goal is to arrange production scheduling so that vehicles with similar features and options are manufactured in one batch. This results in increased manufacturing efficiency and quality, as the number of line re-configurations is kept to a minimum. Unfortunately, this also results in there being no method for verifying the number of vehicles made by categories, such as color, options etc.

We consider the satisfaction of our customers one of our most important objectives. If you have any other inquiries or concerns, please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to address them for you.

Sincerely,
Duane

Wow - I find it hard to believe that the data is not compiled somewhere. It has to be. They may not want to share it, but it is certainly retained somewhere.

I totally agree. That info is there somewhere, there is certainly a way they can compile the info they have and make that list.

So - that list thats floating around out there that says there are 1675 like mine is BS? Made up?

That letter is just crap. #$$%-them. A reply like this is worst than Ford just telling you they don't want to take the time to answer your questions. Don't track options? BS. Options are planned and purchased based on production history - hence the unexpected delays in the IUP last year. no way to track color? Same answer. I hate it when I get talked to like this.
Hopefully, Duane will get similar treatment like this from his doctor or the IRS.

Here is my follow up response to Duane at Ford "Customer Service".

I will let you know if and how they respond.

Duane,

Thanks for your reply, however, I find your answer incredibly hard to believe. You're telling me that Ford has no way of knowing how many cars produced by model? I was not asking for the specific production number of my vehicle. I was asking for the TOTAL production numbers for ALL 2005 Mustangs.

Please let me know if that is possible for Ford to produce.

Thanks.

Randy

If they can track production numbers of SVT Mustangs they can track the 2005's.

My 1995 SVT Mustang Cobra is #1490 of #5260 SVT Mustang Cobra's produced that year. That total number includes Coupes, Convertibles and R's.

I think the guy doesn't know who to talk to when looking for the numbers or he doesn't really care.

You would think they would have a database of all the cars that have been made and it would be as simple as running a simple SQL statement(sorry for the techincal jargon...im a software developer)

That was most likely a canned response by their Kana mail system.

the answer provided is actually not a "canned" answer and was likely the result of a CRC employee researching the inquiry and getting the response from the Business Partner (a Ford employee).

to the average "joe customer" the CRC is Ford...and therefore the CRC "should" have access to such information and have the ability to make it available upon request...but that's just not how it works. the information provided to CSR's and Business Analysts at the CRC is limited to what FMC/LM/FCSD wishes to make available.

while i don't know for sure if such a database exists, i can pretty much guarantee that the CRC doesn't have access to it if it does. having said that, if someone can get in touch with the Mustang Marketing Manager, I'm sure she would be able to provide this information...but i doubt she would give permission to make it public.

I look at it like this.. You aint cuttin this guy a Check.. He's just there to put in his 8 hours and go home man.. Who are you to make him research some colors and batches... I dont blame him... Then you throw his email on the web.. Com'on man! Get real!

All we need is more ammo for the Zealots..

Well my GT is better than yours and worth more because they only made 2 black one's last year.. Well my GT is better than yours because they only made 50 Screamin yellow's.. LOL!! Who cares.. It would just be something else a dealer could use to strip the value of your car when you trade it in..

Kelly Blue book doesnt show how many colors were made, so why should Ford keep a talley on the colors? Its not important..

They have the info, and probably readily available. I used to own a ThunderBird SC and the production numbers where there. Mine was 1 of 3914 built (not #1, but 1 of)

They have the info. Kevin Marti http://www.martiauto.com/
paid for the rights to sell that data on many 60s/70s Fords/Lincolns/Mercurys. If they had it back THEN they surely have it now.

The reason I asked is because I was curious, as I'm sure many TMS members are, regarding the official final production numbers of the 2005 Mustang. My intent has nothing to do with "mine is better than yours", nor anything else you might dream up using that line of reasoning.

I'm guessing you might be in the minority on this one............man.

I agree with you Randy, as I am just as curious to have as much info on my car as is available.

I too hope to see a final tally from Ford on the 05s. Question though, where did the info posted on the other thread concerning production numbers come from? Is that info real?
