Here is my dilemma, how do I choose the right Mustang. I want a daily driver than I can go to the drags from time to time, and drive fast on open highway. Which one is the right choice ?

2005 Mustang GT = 300hp 3V 4.6L V8 in stock trim, costing roughly $26K-$29K with options.

1989-1993 Mustang LX 5.0 = 225hp 5.0L V8. Tried and True. With close to 15K worth of new parts, plus the cost of the car, I could be making over 300hp NA to the wheels from a 5.0L, plus redo all the interior, add suspension, replace entire powertrain with (new trans, engine, gears, fuel system, etc...), paint the car, and have a practically new Mustang for about $4000 less than a new one '05 GT.

1994-1995 Mustang GT = 215hp 5.0L V8. Basically same as above, but a few parts are harder to get since the 5.0L was only in the SN95 Mustang for 2 years, but brake and wheel upgrades are easier on the SN95 Mustang, but I'm not too sure of the looks on the SN95, always sorta disliked.

Any thoughts or input c: would be appreciated.

2005 GT all the way. I find older cars to be money pits. I love my 67 Mustang, but I wouldn't mind selling it either (I've had it for years too) for a down payment on a newer Mustang (ala Shelby )

You are in a 2005 Mustang forum. Any answer here is probably going to be biased.

Get the 2005,

unless the 5.0 is a weekend car, you don't want a daily driver that is constantly "in progress"

Just get the 2005 and you have a nice, powerful modern daily driver.

I understand it might be biased, but since the '05 Mustang is not yet available, we really don't know what people are going to say about it after it receives a good thrashing on the street, drag strip, and road courses.

I am hesitant on the '05 Mustang, because I'd really like to have a little more power than what is stock, and since we are limited to add-ons for the '05 Mustang for at least a year or two, I'm just curious if others have also thought about keeping their current Mustang and adding stuff to it.

Ha,ha, I voted 94/95 . If you have the need to modify your car, and don't have the financial resources to pay for the 05 *and* modify the heck out of it, the 94/95 is a good compromise -- easy to make fast, and very comfy as a daily driver. The only reason I would get a Fox at this point is for all out drag racing (and I've thought about it myself -- a notch would make a great drag car...)

gee, can i vote for all 3???? get an 05 for a daily driver. will get more looks than either of the others. get a fox notch to go drag racing. and a 94-95 cobra vert for weekends to cruise on nice days though monitary availability may cause this to not work! LOL, for a daily driver go with the 05 if you can afford it. sure you can get an older one cheaper and modify it. but then its still not going to be worth what you invest just my 2 pesos

Hardly any car is going to be worth what you invest into it. The only exception will be rare or collector cars, otherwise new cars lose value from day 1.

If you go with a 87-93 I would go onto corral.net and see whats forsale. My friend has a super clean 92 for sale that makes 330 rwhp for sale for around 9 grand. Its really up to what you want though. If you want a new car then buy a 05 or wait till 06 which is what i would do. Or do you want something that your gonna have to put a little work into get a 87-93. You can find all kinds of these cars for sale that are already painted, and modded. Heck the 92 already has a 5 lug converson from a 99gt and is sporting some 99 chrome cobra wheels. You can find what you want if you look you dont have to put 20 grand into a 87-93 to get 330 to the tires and have a super clean car.

I would say go with the 05. Personally I don't have much time to fix a car up, so I would go with something that is already working. Plus I have had things that I thought I knew what they needed. Then after I fix something, I found out it needed more, and more, and more...

Depends on what you want of course. If you simply want a big motor powerhouse for the strip and open, smooth road, then the early FoxStang might be your best choice. Granted the suspension is pretty mediocre, but if your just looking to drag race essentially, then you really don't need much in terms of a suspension anyway, just a big motor and stout drivetrain. There are warehouses of easily gotten go fast pieces for the Windsor family motor (302-351) that could readily get you big horses for not much green.

If, on the other hand, you do have a broader view of vehicle dynamics beyond the narrow confines of the strip and idealized straight line speed, then the '05's vastly improved suspension would reap you much joy on that aspect alone. Even the rather archaic live axle should be worlds better than the ancient grocery-getter sedan design on the current Stang. And the interior design, ergonomics and quality should also be orders of magnitude better, enhancing your overall daily driving and ownership enjoyment beyond just big performance numbers. It might be a year or two for a lot of engine and other performance/dynamic enhancements to show up on the market, however, for this essentially clean sheet design.

As for style and aesthetics, well, that's so personal in the end, but I think the '05 is the sharpest of the three, with the earlier Fox body being second, followed a bit by the busy SN95.

not sure yet. but i'd go with either the 94-94 or the 05. never liked the 87-93 much. but in the long run, the 05 is better, at least thats wat i think.

yes. better safety, it'll last longer, it's way more modern, the looks are better IMHO, it's a smoother ride, it's high-tech, it has a nicer interior, convenience features and... uhm... better fuel economy? maybe?
