2005 mustang car of the year?

does the 2005 mustang deserve car of the year honors for 2005? i'm still not sold on the design of the 2005. i like everything on the mustang except the quarter window. this should have been an option thus having a coupe, fastback and convertible. the 1999-2004 design is so awesome its almost a shame that this body style had to be retired. if anything the sema fr500 would have been a great style for the new 2005 mustang.

You can bet it will split the awards with the Vette. But, I would not be surprised to see more awards for the Pony with all the radical changes, the nostagia for old designs, and the Vette being more of the same.

It should get some car awards....not everyday a 40 year old nameplate comes out with it's most powerfil base car ever.

The stang would definitely win if it were between the vette and the mustang. The vette will be an awesome car, but like 1 BULLITT said, it's more of the same ole stuff. Not to mention the fact that it will cost around $50,000. They tend to award cost-efficient vehicles top honor more often than not. Take the Prius, for example.

Kinda like music or film award shows its not always the most deserving that wins but with the excitement that the 05 stang is generating I have a hard time seeing that anything could steal the spotlight. If I remember correctly the vette was actually voted the most significant car at NAIAS (barely) but they were about the only place that had the vette out front. Motor Trend and the Detroit Free Press websites were slammed with mustang hits and I think they said it was searched for about 3 times more than the C6.

I would think it will win, especially since motor trend gave the F-150 truck of the year. They realize the importance of balance between a perennial volume seller, and being the best it can be. The F-150 is amazing, but many other publications claim the Titan is just a tad bit better in some areas. Either way, it was given truck of the year at NAIAS also, so I think this is a serious contender.
Also, when I see the vette, I see the C5 with exposed headlights... Nothing more.

The C5 actually looks better then the C6 but it'll lack 50hp and a lot of unseen suspension tweaks. I don't like the "double bubble" look of the C6 but I bet it is one sweet ride. Anyway back to the Stang, there is NO WAY it will not be the car of the year for 2005. Also the shape of the rear 1/4 window as compared to the 99-04's (spherical shape) is more angled to accept aftermarket louvres. I am getting a white stang and getting blue racing stripes painted on as well as louvres for the 1/4 windows. Also those black rearview mirrors have to be painted to match (white). It'll look like Burningmans creation. Probably spending about $1200 over what I pay to get it looking like what I want---------

I think it runs a real good chance of taking COY honors. New chassis from the ground up and all, with performance to match. You never know about those CandD guys though. They seem to favor european and ricer cars :bang:

It should win 2005 car of the year hands down! This amount of preformance and style is unpresidented for a car starting undre 20k!
The truly "unexpected" thing about this car! For ford and the rest of the industry, this time next year will be the "unexpected" sales volume..........

Anyone who says the Corvette is just the C5 really needs to check themselves. It's a new chassis (albeit shared with the XLR), and just about everything else is new and improved. That said, the interior blows, but everything else makes the C6 another world-beater. I'd still give the Mustang the award, as it'll be a much bigger event in the common man's eyes, not just the wealthy.

The C6 is ugly. I don't know how much of it is totally new, but it just doesen't do it for me and lots of others, its better performance wise, but thats it. C/D also mentioned how the car companies like to change part ID numbers and call them new, so I'm not sure if they share your thinking. The mustang is new and better all around. No one said anything about GTO, see my rant in the colors thread.

It'd be nice if it took the honors, but who cares? Motor Trend has sponsored some other rather unremarkable cars in the past for that award .. heck I think the Plymouth Omni or something won a while back. It's not the end all, be all award ..

I agree to the point that we know it deserves the award, but it's more about the fact that people who just go buy whatever the mags say they should buy.
It has a heck of a change but seeing how they don't seem to pick a car because of performance or heritage, the Mustang isn't the best canidate (in their eyes, I think...)
