2005 GT Engine with Aluminum Block
Looking way down the line to the day when we all have superchargers and turbos in our new 2005s
, I was wondering if the current 4.6 block could transfer into the 05 with no problems. We all know that there are numerous choices for buying a built 4.6 engine block right now, but the question is will these work with the 05 3 valve heads and various other changes? With the new aluminum block things will probably get pretty pricey for the guys with heavily boosted engines. It would be great if there could be a direct swap, but otherwise it will take awhile for the R&D and when it does come out you sure will be paying for it.

I'm no expert, so I'll wait for ppl who know to give a definitive answer, but if I remember correctly this 4.6L is more closely related to the 5.4L in the F-150 than to the previous generation of 4.6L. So I would guess that the answer is no.

I don't know what kind of changes were made to the bottom end to accomodate the 3V heads.

The heads on the '05 Stang 4.6L are exactly the same as the 5.4L F-150, including the cams. It said so in one of the Ford press releases. There is an article in 5.0 that gives flow #'s for the 3V heads. IIRC they gave the part # for the head assembly and confirmed that the P/N is the same as the F-150.
The AL block is all new for the '05. It is supposedly lighter and stronger than the previous Cobra AL block. It is also supposed to have better NVH characteristics. IIRC one of the changes has to do with the stiffinging ribs in the block V.
