AMERICAN IDOL SUPERSTAR DRIVES HOME IN NEW FORD MUSTANG; TO REVEAL CONVERTIBLE AT LA AUTO SHOW

 • American IdolĀ® superstar Diana DeGarmo takes delivery of her new black 2005 Mustang GT from hometown dealer World Ford Stone Mountain in Snellville, GA.
 • DeGarmo to join the world debut of the 2005 Ford Mustang convertible at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Jan. 5, 2005.
 • Ford begins its sponsorship of the fourth all-new season of American Idol on Tuesday, Jan. 18 on FOX.
DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 20, 2004 - American Idol superstar Diana DeGarmo today took delivery of another American idol - the 2005 Ford Mustang - during a ceremony at hometown dealer World Ford Stone Mountain in Snellville, GA.

DeGarmo, whose black Mustang Coupe has a custom pink stripe on the bodyside, will officially unveil the 2005 Ford Mustang Convertible at the Los Angeles Auto Show on Jan. 5, 2005 with a performance of The Doobie Brothers' Rockin' Down The Highway and her new single Blue Skies.

"Diana DeGarmo is the perfect artist to celebrate the reveal of the long awaited Mustang convertible," said Marty Collins, Ford Division general marketing manager. "Diana captures Mustang's style and excitement plus she has genuine appreciation for the car as one of our newest owners."

The 2005 Mustang Convertible blends the coupe's modern new architecture with drop-top excitement for a new chapter in the most successful convertible performance model ever. The convertible will be available in Ford showrooms beginning Spring 2005.

Ford has been a proud sponsor of American Idol since its debut season in June of 2002. The sponsorship has been expanded for American Idol's all-new fourth season, which starts Jan. 18, with a showcase of Ford's new Mustang and Freestyle as well as youth-oriented models including Escape and Focus. The 2005 American Idol will be awarded a brand new 2005 Ford, just like past American Idol's Ruben Studdard and Fantasia Barrino.

Good news. I'll have to see it in person before I decide coupe/convertible. While I don't care for the roofline in pictures you never know what it will look like in person. There is absolutely no greater stress relief from a hard day at the office then dropping the top, slamming the gas at the top of the highway ramp and go baby go.

I didn't even know she was old enough to drive. How is she the perfect artist. lol Maybe Hank Williams, Jr., Steven Tyler or Lenny Kravitz singing "I just want to fly" cruising down the road with the top down.
Ford's marketing director would say the person was perfect if it was Eminem singing about beating his girlfriends. That's just what marketing directors do.

Ooooooooooh man.. why her. Isn't her 15 mins up yet?

They should have a Detroit artist though. Maybe not Eminem and certainly not Kid Rock. Come on now.

With decisions like a pink stripe, maybe she shouldn't be the perfect artist to reveal the convertible.

hmmmm, didn't DeGarmo just turn 16 this year. Give me a break. She is not the perfect artist. If she was she would have won the competition

Ford should have used Bob Seger. He's from Michigan (Ann Arbor), and has even written and performed songs about Ford Vehicles. The song was Making Thunderbirds. Of course, GM might have issues with this since they use "Like a Rock".

I would think Toby Kieth or Alan Jackson would be better artists. Considering they are both Ford fans and have been in numerous commercials/endorcements. A lot of Toby Kieth's music videos have ford products in them.

Toby could have done a new rendition of "I love this bar" and named it "I love this car".

I bet the vert will be nice but losing the roof and the c pillars would really stink for me.

That would just reinforce the stereotype that all musclecar guys are mullett wearing rednecks

Absolutely - you beat me to the punch on that one.

That line about her being the right person for the car made me laugh, alright - in reality, this DeGarmo chick is the 'perfect sponsor' because:

(A) - Ford is a sponsor of the IDOL show

and

(B) Ford KNOWS that the tried and true Mustang fans would and will buy the new Pony without even ONE TV commercial on the air. Using her, they can go after a younger audeince who doesn't know the Mustang and its heritage all that well.
