2005 or 2006?
Well I want an 05+ Gt mustang for sure. I really don't care if its the premium or deluxe (I'd be happy with either one, but not looking specifically for a premium model.) I have a friend that goes to auctions regularly and can get me a GT for pretty cheap. Color and what not isn't an issue since I want it in Performance white and with 3:55 gears (thats why I want an 05-06 since 07s have 3:31 gears.) Anyways so I'm trying to decide which to get.
05 - Pro's - cheaper price - I can save 2-3k/slightly cheaper insurance
con's - first year of new platform and was pretty buggy at first
06 - Pro's - Not as buggy/ comes with Ford's new updated warranty on the drive train 5yr/60k miles.
Con's - Slightly more expensive
Warranty info 06 + http://www.fordvehicles.com/features...ex.asp?id=1540
I'm kinda leaning towards the 06 due to the warranty alone to avoid any repair costs. I'm not looking to do a ton of mods or anything, pretty much just some axlebacks and what not, but nothing major until the warranty is over. I'm going to get the car based upon sentimental reasons (My first car was a 66 fastback and I need another fastback hehe.) So lemme know what you think.....05 or 06?

It depends on alot of things. Either year may have had an extended service agreement purchased with the car and possibly is transferable. Also, maybe an '05 has had all the TSB's taken care of. I say find the best '05 or '06 for the money & not necessarily one year over the other.

If it came with an ESP that would be awesome. I guess the only way to check it out is to take the vin # and give it to ford and see what has been done to it. I've seen some REALLY cheap 05 GTs with below 20k miles for around 19-21k!!! Only bad thing is that the majority of them are automatic and with me being a younger guy, I want a manual

It really depends on two things: Mileage and price. when you buy a used car, you are really buying usable mileage. So, an 05 with 10,000 miles may be a better deal than an 06 with 20,000, depending on how many miles you are putting on the car.
But, also remember that although the 05 is cheaper, the identical car as an 06 will ALWAYS be worth more, because it is a year newer.
The best thing to do is determine your projected cost per mile, based off how many miles you plan on putting on the car, and what each car would be to buy.
The best car to buy, in my opinion, is a 6 month to 1 year old car with less than 10000 miles. The original owner has already taken the big hit in depreciation, so your cost won't be as bad. Then, just add the extended warranty. That way, you can get into a "brand used" car and have a 5-7 year warranty for less than buying it brand new.
[That is what I did with my car....it was about 6 months old and had 6000 miles; I drove up to DC to get it, because the dealership there wanted out of it badly: it was November, in DC....no one wants a manual with a convertible in DC, especially in the winter]. So, I was able to get it for what it should have been worth, not what the market was trying to bring (which was still up to 5K over MSRP at the time)

I don't believe all 06s have the 5 year 60K warranty. If I'm reading this thread correctly, only those 06s purchased on/after 7/14/ 2006 have this warranty http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showth...light=warranty

That is correct, it only has the 60k powertrain when purchased after a certain date.
We have been having trouble getting 05's and 06's that are that much cheaper then new ones. If you work a decent deal, + the $1000 rebate, its really not that much more to go for a new one right now. I haven't seen that many running through auctions, particularly the manuals. They have been going through Manheim one or two at a time.

weaaaaak I thought the warranty was good on all 06 models regardless of date bought. That is such BS though. It should be all 06s or none IMO.
I'm just going to mainly look for the best deal. I mean I could always purchase an ESP if I wanted to before the warranty ends.

I guess I'll just go for whatever the best deal is and just save up and buy an ESP.
I'm still deciding between Performance White or Windveil Blue. I think I'm leaning towards the Windveil Blue since that was the original color I had in mind when they first came out and my favorite color is blue

Yeah I would go with the best deal but I would also have some guidelines for me if I were buying a used GT.
1. Low mileage
2. Known reccord of all work performed (sometimes not available)
3. no heavy damage done to paint or interior
4. This one is the most important for me the GT would have to be BONE stock, zero mods. You buy someones GT with all kinds of mods you can bet that even with low mileage I would be leary of a modded GT, given that they could have drove it to hell.
P.S. like your sig "you gotta shake it, before you Bake it!"

Not to mention you have no real choices with used. I didn't want to order mine but could not find one already on a lot I would consider taking within a 600 mile radius so I had to order. Even giving up one option(which I hate because you regret it the entire time you own the car or pay tripple to add it later) there was nothing.
a gt manual will show up at the auction, but it will be something like L.Lime with a parchment cloth interior, machined 17's and no IUP....

Yea I know what you mean man. All I really want is my car in Windveil Blue, grey/black interior and 5spd. I'd prefer no IUP and no aluminum plating (I think it's kinda too much, but i understand since it's retro)

I got an 05 used because I found one in Redfire + Manual + Shaker 1k for $25k. Think about the (pre-mod) options and color you want, and if you can find it used, go for it. Mine was non-iup, but I added the leather wheel and shift **** for not too much $. Kevin at Clevenger can hook you up with factory options you can add on.
However, If $2-3k is small change for you then order one new.

Good luck with buying your mustang. I would go for the best deal you can find. When I was upgrading from my 06 'V6 to a GT in September, I was originally trying to find a new 06 as they were being discounted with the '07's coming into stock. However, all I could find was auto's and I wanted a 5spd. I ended up finding an 05 GT bone stock except for window louvers that was fully loaded with every option you could get for 23,900. It had just over 20k on the clock so I decided that I would go for that instead of an 06. I was a little concerned about the 05 bugs but so far have had no problems. Just go with your gut. I hope you find what you're looking for.
