1st oil change recommend from dealer

Have read many posts on recommended 1st oil change. Made the call to the dealer to set apmnt. and did not recommend 1st change until minimum of 2,000 miles. He said today's engines it is not necessary to do change earlier. I could not convince him otherwise.

Can anyone say if harm will be made by waiting that long until 1st oil change? or should I go elsewhere to have it changed? I had planned to make 1st change at 500 miles. I understand this is controversial.

What is Ford's position on 1st oil change? 3k?

Look in your owner's manual it says 5,000miles. I've been doing mine every 5,000 with no problems. I'm sure Ford wouldn't say 5,000 if it needed it any sooner.

My first oil change was at 500 miles; switched to Mobil 1.

Controversial is right, get ready for a myriad of opinions on this.

There are many oil change discussions on this site, but just because the service advisor didn't recommend the oil change, doesn't necessarily mean the dealer wouldn't change it. If the dealer is offering the first oil change free, then they shouldn't care when you do it. I'd just call them and set up another appointmenet with a different service advisor and let them know up front that you prefer to have the first change done earlier than recommended. BTW. I've been told the same thing you were many times.

I normally change the oil out of my cars within 2-3k miles on the first change, and then every 4-5k after that.

I normally change out the first factory fill at 500 miles, but I'm kind of lazy and will wait for it to reach 1000 miles.

I had my first one done at 1000. The service manager told me it wasn't necessary, but they did it anyway.

IMHO, oil change frequency (and even oil type) is more a matter of superstition than science. I highly suspect that the 3000 mile interval recommended by many is too soon for most normal driving - especially if using synthetic.

I agree with lodom - 4k-5k.

I swithed to mobile 1 at 500 , good thing to, as it happened I missplaced the date for first check up & oil change and I'm sure its past, and they still have not called about it as they normally would ?

I changed mine at 300 & 1,000 and now every 5,000 it gets changed.

The 300 was Motocraft Synthetic Blend, at 1,000 I changed to Mobil 1 Synthetic and that will be the only oil from now on.

It might have been overkill, but my piece of mind is worth more than the price of any oil change.

+1 Cars can go further between changes these days, but I'm still part of the 3000 club.

Since I have a mileage limit on my insurance policy that lets me drive the car a total of 8,500 miles a year, I do to changes I just did it at 12,425 (once I got back from Carlisle), and I'll do the other around 16,500 or so. The next one, I may be changing to Mobil 1. Wanted to wait till I got over 15,000 on it before I switched.

Do we HAVE to change it based on time, or can we just go by the mileage? I log less than 6000 miles a year so that would equate to 1 or 2 changes max.

My last car ran like new after 30 years and only 53,000 mi.
I changed the oil a couple times a year and that was probably too much.
My first oil change on the Mustang was at almost 2k, 2nd before the car reached 5k (3k interval).
At less than 5000 miles a year I'm stickin' with a couple times a year if it needs it or not.

Just change it it's cheap. There is nothing bad that can happen if you do. However there is debate on whether you should wait or not. The choice is clear. Cheap. No risk. Do it.

Personally:

500 changed with factory blend 5/20
2000 changed with factory blend 5/20
3500 changed with Mobil 1 5/20

Will do 5k changes from now on.

Our dealer offered us a complimentary oil change at 1500 miles so that they could also check out the car. Couldn't argue with that.
