My guess is that 100001 was probably the first test mule. The car we saw in Cincy back in June was 100194. The production models will probably start at around 500 or 600.
There was an article in the Sept. issue of Mustang Monthly about the 1994 Job 1 Mustang. The first to roll of the line was 100296, which went to Bill Ford. The second was 100106 and the third was 100256.
It also stated that in 1964, 100001 through 100180 were pre-production models and were used for display.
If this is true, then in 1994 they made about 100 or so test mules. With the '05, at around 500 or 600 test mules, this will have to be the best Mustang ever built.

wow. thanks for the stats. i guess we'll find out in 2 weeks what vin it's starting at. if they really are going 500 or 600 test mules in, all the worries about 'first come' cars having bugs should fade really fast.

Okay, question. Derynf claims his is being built 2 days after Job 1 (which is entirely possible) and that his car will reach his dealer in Cali. 30 days later. By that rationale, I put my order in July 1st, it's probably going to be built not long after Job 1, my dealer is in Livonia, MI, so does that mean I'll get my car much sooner. I only ask because I swear I read a post that cars to local dealers in Detroit will be delivered considerably sooner than they will out of state (which sounds obvious logisticly). Am I wrong here?

My sequence number is 100777 (just lucky I guess ). I have not checked back with the dealership for some time now, so I do not know what the build date might be. I figure it will get built when it gets built; nagging my salesman will not help.

Very Similar cars will be built on the same shift.
They may try and get intro date all the same across the county. Like new CD's or movies.
I don't know though. It'd be frustating to see you midwest and east coasters driving in your '05s a week before us left coasters.
Also, VIN# is not the order in which they roll off the line. I beleive it is the order in which Ford Picked up your order.
the likleyhood of a black Gt rolling off the line before or after mine is greater than the a mustang sequential before or after mine.

ehm... as AAI is a very modern plant, I doubt that they'll build just black GTs one day and yellow V6s the next day. And they won't just build cars with IUP one day and those w/o another. Modern factories like AAI can build V6s, GTs, heck even verts, in red, blue, yellow or green, with or without Shaker 1000 etc etc on the same assembly line at the same time. AFAIK, they'll build the Mazda 6s along with the GTs. So your black GT wich anti theft and side airbags might be built right after a Mazda 6 wagon with sports package, 17" rims and 5spd manual. And the door handles are the same anyway
