08 Mustang Speedometer Problem

Hey guys, so I started having this issue with my mustang. The speedometer needle becomes erratic and bounces up and down. It also does a weird static noise when it happens. I changed the speed sensor but it still does the same thing.
I also noticed today that the speedometer needle only bounces erratically on rainy or snowy days.
On dry days, the car drives fine and the speedometer doesn’t act up.
Any suggestions on what the problem could be? Thanks in advance.

Look for water intrusion by the SJB. It's either that or the stepper motor.

SJB = smart junction box. Earlier S197's were known to leak water on them and that will cause all sorts of weird electrical problems.

What SpectreH said. The SJB is behind the front passenger kick panel.

not to hijack the thread, but since OP's got the answer (SJB or probably the stepper motor, google for 2005 Mustang gauge stepper motor replacement)...

I checked, it's been a full year, man. Good to see ya!
