08 GT swings right on hard accell
08 GT swings right on hard accell
Hi, I have an 08 GT with a Roush Phase 2 super charger, dropped 1.5" with Ebach springs all around, I have a hell of a time keeping the rear from making a hard right swing if the tires brake loose. I also have an 07 Super Snake and it tracks perfectly straight under the same conditions. I know that Super snake has a better suspension, but I don't understand what parts correct this. Any help would be appreciated!
Welcome to the forums!
This is assuming that the steering rack is fine, the tie rod ends are all ok, and that your alignment is correct. So if that's all true...
Did you put on better rear lower control arms with poly bushings? Could be the rubber bushings of the stock ones aren't up to the task. And the stockers aren't nearly as strong. I'd get some new LCAs with poly-poly bushings, and I'd do that right away. Cheap, easy solution, immediate results. Should help with traction and wheel hop. Not that it'll send you sideways... but hey, that much extra horsepower/torque, every little bit of 'go that way' is advisable.
As an aside, it might be that you want some lower control arm relocation brackets which will fix a problem with the control arms now being the wrong length for the body's lowered height, and this could be the problem.
Secondly, you lowered it, and that sorta sounds like bumpsteer. Get a bumpsteer kit and that probably will fix it. These are, in effect, redesigned outer tie rod ends that correct a geometrical error when lowering the cars, which will cause the car to steer, and not you, over bumps and acceleration/deceleration.
Thirdly, and I'm not sure that 08 had this done already, but the front control arms are a little sloppy in stock form. I'd get the GT500 upgrade front control arms installed. Might be that yours are wore out and shifting on ya.
Also, it may be that your axle is out of alignment. Not that it should really cause a pull like that, but again, every lil' bit... so check it and if needed get an adjustable panhard bar to recenter the axle.
And do all alignments and measurements with 1/2 a tank of gas in it. That's 'centered' for the car.
If all this is not a problem... then the axle might be slipping on one side, namely the left, and the power is transferring to the right side. Might need to have the axle inspected.
Of course, if your tires are the same diameter and air pressures and make and model and all that... then they shouldn't be a problem... but if one is worn more than the other... or is a different make... or compound... or... whatever the case it's a possibility that could cause the car to bite on the right better than the left and cause the swingout. Maybe. Pretty out there, ya ask me, but I suppose it must be said if one is to be thorough.
I'm not saying it's all of these... certainly sounds like at least the bumpsteer is the problem... but all are good to check and correct.
Hope that helps!

Thanks for the excellent response, I am confident that all the oem parts are good, I have inspected them not to mention the car 13,000 miles. The car has camber plates and the wheel alignment has been done, do you have suggestions for quality parts?
I like my BMR LCAs in back, and the panhard bar. Others say Steeda LCAs or Whiteline Panhard...
GT500 front control arms from Ford. You can do others, but there's no need, IMO, unless you're racing.
If you get the bumpsteer... eh. I went with Whiteline because they look like the better kit overall. I hope I did ok in that.
Relocation brackets if desired/needed are a user choice. It's metal. It's also whether you bolt on or weld on.
Dunno if that's what you are asking for, but I think that's what you wanted?
