'07 GT Shaker 500 system - please explain the aux input 1/8" mini-jack

I'm an inch away from buying a '07 GT Deluxe with the factory Shaker 500 system installed. I have Googled quite a bit on this topic, but am still confused about the Shaker's aux input 1/8" mini-jack located in the center console.

If I plug a generic MP3 player into that jack, will I be able to play digital MP3 files through the radio? Or does it only work with iPod, or is there even some other Ford-specific device that it's designed for?

I would be very grateful if someone could clarify for me, as this makes a difference in my offer price. If I have to upgrade the radio, well, that's ~$500.....

Thanks very much.

Probably just a stereo audio input and you would select some kind of "aux input" to hear the audio through the jack, like an mp3 player of some kind (Walkman, ipod shuffle, Sansdisk).

Plug in and use AUX input on stereo
I plug in my old mp3 player or my Bluetooth adapter (needs 12v power) for my tablet.
They both work great.

Thanks very much. That's the answer I was hoping for.
