What does everybody expect from the new Cobra??

Here is my list:
1. at least.... 450 horsepower
2. Minimum 18" wheels/tires (with 19" optional)
3. HID lights option (if a $16,000 toyota can have 'em, so can we!!!)
4. IRS (yes, sorry...)
5. ... a sunroof would be nice, if possible

From SVT Enthusiast Nov/Dec issue:

... after dinner, Ford fans had a Q&A session with SVT powertrain engineer for the next Cobra, Brian Roback, who was in town from Dearborn. There was no shortage of questions as Brian did his best to share what information he could about the next-generation Cobra, Lightning and the future of SVT. Cobra owners were exuberant when Brian confirmed the next Cobra would sport an independent rear suspension and a lot more power. "It's good to be able to say we've been out there with these guys and we know what they want when we go back to decide what's going to be in the car," said Roback regarding the many comments he got from current Cobra owners.

Why would a performance oriented vehicle have added extra weight for a sunroof?

i would say 425 hp at a minimum, (450+ would be great) and continuing the great performance and appearance enhancements we have come to expect on the flagship model. i don't expect a moonroof, as its kinda been completely phased from the mustang and ford has pointed to body flex concerns........that said the new chassis would probably provide the platform for them to add that option. how about a targa roof?

has anyone put together a photo-chop of this masterpiece 2005 mustang in typical cobra trim?

Why 19s? We going for "bling-bling" now on American cars? Pass.

HIDs? Why? So you can make night look like day? Halogens don't give you enough light? Overrated. Pass.

450 horsepower...sure. Heck, I'd settle for 400 again...if the car were N/A. Kinda getting tired of these boosted engines...sure, it's nice, but let's see some high output N/A motors again.

IRS...okay.

Sunroof? Nah. There's gonna be a convertible available. Why half-hiney the open-road feel?

I would count on wishes #1, 2, & 4. For #3, maybe, although the Cobra theme has been performance, functionality, and a sleeper design, nothing flashy. The exception to the latter was Cobra R. For #5, you can forget it. That's why there is a vert.

I like the list except:

#2 18s are likely, maybe even 19s, but it won't be both. Cobras normally don't have options except spoiler delete.

#5 already been covered, seriously doubt this one.

With the lack of options being pointed out, If the SMG tranny makes it to production, I would think (hope) that it is optional and a regular manual is offered.

The biggest "I want" is a nicer quality interior. The GT interior is still a little too "cheap plastic" for me. It won't keep me from buying, but, it sure would be nice.

5.4 supercharged 500 hp.

If Pontiac GTO Judge can have 500 hp, Mustang Cobra must have it too.

And T-TOP. How hard is to add T-TOP?

Options 1,2, & 4 seems like really good ones to me. Option 3 & 5 I could do without. However, as Red Star pointed out, if the Goat's gonna have 500hp and IRS, then the Cobra should too. If Ford is trying to market the Cobra to be more upscale, then it should set its sight on the Corvette and should be on par as far as performance with the Z06. Like I've said before on another thread..."If I'm gonna spend 40K on a Cobra ot better damm will beat the Vette."

Just make sure the 18"s look like they fit appropriately. The BFGoodrich ad is 20's series wheels and tires........And no, I hate even the word "bling"..... But "performance" cars are moving up in size,......the Vette, Ferrari's , Porsche, the M5. My option list has nothing to do with Bling!!! I've had 5 mustangs, and always hated the little wheels looking like the were the size made for a corolla. And as far as a sunroof, just wondering. Most of the above listed cars have the sunroof option, so there isnt any reason a Cobra cant, right?

Sounds good to me. Throw in some functional scoops, IRS, big hiney brakes and Ford will have me indebted (literally).

450+ hp N/A
Ducktail!
Functional hood scoop
IRS
C6 killer that can hold its own with the Z06, and never mind mind Pontiac is doing. A 500 hp Goat is a bit impractical, to my way of thinking (for Pontiac, I mean, not the drivers); I doubt there's a big enough market for everyone to get a piece of the Viper.

And no fancy gizmos like the Vette. This should be a serious performance car, not a show-up-your-neighbours luxury/sports car. Leave that to the Europeans.

I think I have this straight but not sure. You want to out run or what ever a Vett and do it with a $40,000 Cobra. These cars are not even in the same class or price range dude. How many Cobras do you see on the track? I have seen none. How many Vetts do you see on the track? Loads. How many Vetts do you see at the drags? Few but loads of Cobras. You want to beat them in the 1/4? You can do that for less than than 40,000 with an 05 and older Mustang with some motor mods. By a GT and you will beat them on the track but then you will pay a little more. You might want to get some better info. and bring yourself up to speed on this matter.

When J. Mays mentioned that the GTR concept was a design study for future vehicles (Mustangs), I hope he meant that the next Cobra will borrow some cues from it. Rumors of a 500-horsepower engine has me very excited, too, whether supercharged or N/A. The wheel wells on the '05 Mustangs are HUGE; what's wrong with 19" wheels? As long as they're done tastefully, don't spin, and fill out those enormous wheel wells, I don't see a problem with 'em. I also wouldn't mind seeing a glass roof like the ones showcased on the CDC and Saleen SEMA cars, although I doubt that's even remotely a posibility. Oh, yeah, and give us an IRS and a ducktail!!!

Dang, sounds like a sweet car to me...... :-)

I'm hearing 470 HP target, so that should satisfy all of you. All I know is its gonna knock the socks off of any Cobra already on the road, as well as our feared enemies, the C6 and the Goat. Just wait....

All it would take to make me happy:

1. Start with a 2005 GT body
2. Racing stripes
3. Ducktail
4. Aluminum 32V with a Whipple @ 12 psi
5. T56 tranny
6. Optional IRS

I don't need flashy. I like the way the 05 GT looks, it's just underpowered. A couple minor tweaks (the stripes & ducktail) and then a significant bump in horsepower, and I'd buy one today.
