Can those of you with a 06 manual tranny's help me out?

Not sure if I have a problem or if it is normal.

My manual when shifted into fourth gear makes a rattling/vibration noice while still increasing speed once it levels out it's fine.

Are any other people experiencing this?

The other gears make no noice at all, it's fourth gear that makes it.

Also I am having a terrible time getting it to go into reverse at times, more often than not.
I know some with 05's were having a issue, but I thought it was to be fixed with the 06's.
I have tried going through all the gears to get it to go into reverse and it does not work. I've tried letting it roll a little when can and that does not work either.

Maybe I should chalk it up to being new for now, maybe break it in some. It only has about 800 miles right now, but will be stored until spring.

Any others with this?

I haven't noticed any noise from mine. As far as reverse goes, you have to start from left of center to get into reverse, ie go from the 1st or 2nd gear position into reverse. This is to prevent you from inadvertantly going into revese from 5th gear... oops, or hitting reverse when you really don't want to.
Hope that helps .

I've tried that, going from first or second to reverse, it did not work.

It's about to be stored for the winter, guess I'll just wait until spring and get more miles on her then see if it still does it, if so will take her in to be looked at.

I think you're shifting into fourth too early and you're lugging it.

I've tried it at various speeds, anywhere from 35 to 55 mph, got same noise no matter what speed.
The noise was there until I leveled out my speed then it went away.

You shouldn't be in 4th gear between 35 and 55. Well you can, if you were just coasting. Downshift man, downshift. You bogging your engine out. There is nothing wrong with your car.

When accelerating, I don't hit 4th gear until 80-85 MPH.

Or at low RPMs

Shifting out of 4th and into 5th at 55 is normal for your car in everday, casual driving. Sounds like you have a problem.

A better way to tell if you're shifting too early and lugging it is see what your RPM's are when you up shift.

You need to get the reverse gear problem looked at. (and the 4th gear sounds like you are going to 4th too early)

That's what lugging it means.

You guys need to read the manual. Optimum fuel efficiency says to shift into 4th gear at 30 mph, and 5 at 40. It's not boggin the engine down unless you're racing.

No problems here... Have it looked at while it's still covered.

Im curious about all this talk about going into 4 "too early".

I have a 15 mile commute to work each day and I rarely get over 45mph durring my trip. I cruse along in 4th with no issues. This engine has more than enuogh torque to handle crusing in 4th at this speed. My 05 tranny makes no odd noises when I cruse to work.

My tranny used to be really difficult to get into reverse as well. It eventually loosened up and now goes in pretty smoothly. There will always be times where the gears don't line up and it won't go in, but that is normal behavior.

I'm usually watching the tach as much as I am the speedo. I generally try to keep the engine above 2K rpm. She responds more enthusiastically. I select my gear accordingly.

Not good for fuel economy. But fuel economy was not on my list when I bought this car.
