Just got back from the Cincinnati stop on the 40 City Tour.

Keith, a Ford Engineer, stated that the wheel offset on the GT is 45mm, and 39mm on the V6. He also stated the lug pattern is the same as the current Mustang 5 x 4 1/2. So no using older wheels.

He said the intake would not have the cover, but would be stipple(?) grain, and have the fuel line under the intake (Over the intake on display model).

I just wanted to share.

F1-Cobra should have some pics coming if he went.

That is what I was told. Though I did not measure. If F1-Cobra went he said he might measure the lug pattern.

The main reason, says Keith, for the new offset is to align the wheels closer to the edge of the fenders.

It confirms what I have been saying for a long time, that is most modern cars have the wheel hubs pushed farther out to the sides of the car thus requiring higher offset wheels. This allows greater flexibility in selecting suspension mounting points and suspension arm lengths. This can be used to advantage in improving both the handling and ride of the car.

The 05 Mustang is following that trend.

Yes, this actually the MAIN reason. The alignment is a byproduct, but a point Ford wanted to acheive.

Nope... you didn't, unfortunately. Correct Measurement would have been like this afaik (sorry for the weird q'n'd mspaint job ), though I guess what you measured will do the job as well as we now know the dimensions and can calculate it

if you say the lug is the same as the current Mustang then you can use 99+ wheels......why do you say you can't?

looks like its 5x4.5
that diagram above is wrong, measure from the center of the lug (not the back) to the line tangent to the opposite lugs

Yes you can used the Bullitt wheels on the new 05 Mustang and standard on the GTs

measure across like he did gives you a slightly smaller measure, which looks to me like 4.25", so round up to 4.5

This is a slightly different Bullitt wheel...unfortunately it is not the same as the current one.

OK, the 99 wheels will bolt on. HOWEVER, being the offset is different the old wheels will have the tires closer to the outer fender or closer to the inner fender, depending on what the 99 wheels offset is ( I don't know what it is) so technically, while the wheels will bolt on because the lug pattern matches, your tires will probably rub.

OK, the same bolt pattern, but the backspacing is differnet? What does the wheel offset translate to inches? And is that considered the same as backspacing? What then is the backspacing for these wheels? Please clarify this for me. Thanks.

What about 18x9 wheels, does it change somewhat?

Or can 17x9.5 wheels be used for all 4 corners?

What would be the widest tire I would want to go on the 17x8 for the 2005 STANG, considering not only appearance but ride quality?

I'd like to have some 18x9.5's in the rear with some 295's. If a wheel is made, I wonder if the body will accomodate them?
