Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, this is my first post here.

After searching high and low for a dealership with any inventory of the new 05's, I found one finally. It had a sticker of $33,000.00 (and change) for a black GT premium, ofcourse it was loaded but it also had a $5000.00 mark up.

Any tips on getting dealers to drop the mark up, or do I need to wait a few months for them to start knocking that off. I really want to buy the car and expect to pay near or full MSRP, however I'm not willing to pay an extra 5 grand.

I have great credit and cash to put down, I could most likely get a great deal on most cars and don't want to regret buying it too soon, getting a poor APR plus paying a mark up.

I want to start negotiating but I don't want to take a hit on my credit when the credit check if I cannot get around that mark up. $5000.00 is a pretty big hunk of cash.

Does ordering a specific car from the dealership help with negotiating the mark up off?

Thanks for any info, Nyn

Do not pay it. Pay 0 markup. No markups at all, do not pay it, find another dealership.

Go to a different dealer.

I just got an e-mail from a local dealer who says he's getting two GT's in today, one silver w/leather, IUP, and 5-sp auto, the other torch red with red leather, 5-sp manual, IUP. Both he says he'll sell for "much less than MSRP".

So what I'm saying is, do a little shopping, there are dealers out there who are more interested in customer service than a quick buck.

Call around, tell them your willing to pay MSRP nothing more take it or leave it.

I think MSRP is reasonable to ask for this car on the lot. I think we will see markups go once dealers start moving the rest of the 04’s, and dealers have plenty to sell. Most likely you would be buying his only GT.

I would say for NOW, MSRP is about the max you should pay, after another month or so, I would expect $500 off if a dealer has 3 or more(but that may not happen, this car may be UBER hot from what we are seing). If you order, then you should negotiate much more vigilantly, its a guaranteed sale months from now that causes the dealer no pain to sell for less.

Yes, I agree. Do not pay the mark up. It's a buyers market and we dictate what we pay within reason. Try not to get caught up in your emotions and fall for the dealers ploy to make as much as they can. That dealer is not your friend. Go somewhere else and if you cannot find it right for you now then save your money for a nice down payment and wait. The 05's do not officailly go on sale till 11/01/04. I plan on waiting til the hype dies then go shopping. Good luck! I'm sure there are plenty of other dealers around your area to deal with.

Same thing happened to me..dealer in Seattle that was the first to get it was wanting a markup in that exact neighborhood. Of course, it probably didn't help that I answered the question, "how much do you want to pay a month?" After a lot of pointless negotiating(mostly my fault)I walked. Went by another dealer last night, who just happened to get thier first GT right then, and they said MSRP period, no markup. I would follow everyone else's advice and wait for the heat to die down.

Hey thanks a ton for the input. I've never bought a car before that had any kind of mark up and dealers won't tell you much, just that it is negotiable...

Wink

this is what im doing...im 19... i had a 66FB im dead in love w\that fastback models...i saw a 05 in person and fell in love w\it ive got enuff to put down a pretty good down payment, and i also have an X plan thru my work, and its a pretty darn good paying wage for my age...so im basically going to throw a good chunk of my $ into a CD for a certain amount of time, let the intrest rack up (oh wow only 40$ just about, but at least i know i cant touch it for the safety of the 05 lol) and then when the time comes, ill have more $ to get the 05 and put a BETTER down payment on it, also, for us A/X/planners out there, most dealers are being jerks about it and wont let us get in on the deal :notnice: and im sure as heck not paying their MSRP OR MARKUP...for crying out lout, i saw a 05 V6 AT w\some fairly good options and the dealer was asking 33k for it!!!! i was going to get a 99-04...but i just may do the 05 instead...im workin darn hard for it hehe
