05 gt 5th gear@120mph
up in San Fran for the 4th with my woman, drove up in the stang. picked up a radar detector before the drive(these things friggin rock. we basically played spot the cop all the way up by using it)...on the 5, we hit a clear stretch about a mile open so i decide to take it and see how fast she'll actually go. 120 isnt as fast as you think it'd be and i guess games like forza and GT4 are pretty accurate in depicting speed.
The suprise though was right as i hit 120 it friggin shifted into 5th. theres a whole extra gear just sitting up there waiting for you to push it more. good god. i took it up to 130 on another stretch but the hood started vibrating so we quit. I guess hoodpins ARE pretty useful. I don't think i'll ever take it up that high again unless i go to a drag strip. :nono: thank god we made it up in 1 peice!

I take it you own an automatice since you didnt know it had a fifth gear and "it shifted", yes these autos are also 5speeds, I believe its new to this year but I thought it was one of the big selling points when they came out and that it was well known. I am wondering about this hood vibration I keep hearing about, I had mine pinned all the way down (140+) and never noticed any vibration.
thanks all! stripes are painted, car is mineral grey, paint was $1000 with clearcoat along the outer borders to protect the stripes vs re-clearing the entire car. btw i know it had 5th gear
but how often do you go 120mph?

yeah...I heard that about the new stangs.
The darn hood starts to shake as if was coming off....when you hit about 120-130. Doesn't seem to safe....Overall i think the older stangs (previous generation, eg 1999), were a bit more aerodynamic.
I take my 99 stang to 130MPH at least once a week on my way to work. I have a nice open highway and good straight stretch to let those ponys run. There is no sense of excess speed or any vibration. And i also did the SSCC last year. That was pretty much 120MPH for 90 Miles nonstop.
I had my Stang up to 164MPH at one point, but that was only for 30secs, had to slow down for traffic. At that speed other cars going 80, start to look like there standing still. And yea...this is where the car started to feel like i'm coming in for re-enty.
Funny thing is though...after slowing down from 160 to 120....you feel like your only going 80.
We'll see how fast the 2006 can really go, when i pick it up later this year.
