'05-'09 Owners - Check Your Brakelights!

Sorry for the Public Service Announcement, but our 'Stangs are getting on in years and there is an growing epidemic out there on the street. As an owner, every one of your S197's gets checked out by me and NOBODY'S 3rd brake light is functioning.

And I am amazed at the number of left or right tail lights out, since the blinker flash rate about doubles when a bulb is out.

OK, off the soap box now

Most drivers don't know what it means when their turn signal is hyperflashing, and most of them don't care either way.

I agree with you, but people just don't care.

Preach it! There is nothing more annoying than seeing a nice looking Mustang with lights that don't work... makes it instantly look like a junk car!

Also! Blinkers! They were a free feature that is meant to be used!

The once a year inspections sure help out in NC but it really stinks if a bulb dies in the first month after the inspection. I personally check often but I'm not typical of the average owner.

I have sequentials on mine, and I check them regularly.

Thanks to my chin spoiler, I back into almost every parking space, so I usually see my brake lights in the store's windows and catch it early on.

I am constantly checking the lights at night in any reflective surface I can, so mine are good, last I checked.

Morning commute, saw only 2 S197's. Yep - neither had functioning 3rd brake lights. One had a brake light out.

Always good to check.

I had a side marker light go out in the rear.
Bought some LEDs and replaced the map lights with those and used one of the old map lights to replace the side marker. Same bulb.

I see them all the time too, third brake light out is the most common! Mine blew out once and I caught it in a window backing up also and left brake light went out twice on the drivers side since new..I always know because the turn signal flashes super fast and it's annoying..!

I also got an LED third brake light, that solved the problem of that cheesy bulb from blowing out all of the time.

I want the Raxiom Gen 5 tail lights, those are LED! Bulb burn out will be a thing of the past once I score a set...

I have replaced the center bulb in the driver side taillight and it stopped working within one day. Can you install the bulb incorrectly? Does it have to face a certain direction? If not then I may have a short.

I believe they only fit one way....may have gotten a bad bulb.

I'm fairly sure the bulb fits both ways. You might try flipping it around. Also try a known working bulb in the questionable socket.

Same here ..... frequently and at every opportunity.
Also at night when driving alone on the roadway, just watch side mirror as tap brake pedal or signals.

I also have found that on most cars, tail lights are fused with dash illumination .... hint.
