Obviously you would expect the 03 to walk the 05...but if it kept pretty even at first, thats a good indication.
Just take it with a grain of salt.
Final numbers aren't far off... from our magazine reviews.
Then knock the numbers down a few 10ths as they usually are even better than that
Five minutes later I saw a red mustang GT. Looks good. My girlfriend does not like the looks however and absolutely hates the front lights. We started from a roll at around 25mph and it stayed pretty even right off the bat. As I shifted to third, I began to walk him but we both had to shut down.

"When will then BE now..."
"Soooooon"
I have a feeling we'll see MotorTrend come this upcoming month have it on the cover...if it doesn't...then definately the next.
But MT wouldn't give up that chance....they want to probably publish them first .... if they paid for that right or whatever.
3 weeks I give it.... maybe 3.5 till its in someones mailbox ahead of schedule as usual

Wow....great to hear. We'd expect the Cobra to walk the GT but the fact that the GT kept up with him at least initially is really good to hear. If the Cobra destroyed the stang, he would have said so. The fact that he is willing to admit that the 05 was able to hang says a lot IMO.
I can't wait.

I'm not looking to start any debate either. However, in the races i have had with '03-'04 Cobras, getting an initial jump on one, or hanging with one in the beginning, isn't that hard. Mainly because their IRS has to be babied during take-off with a engine with that much torque. Once they get going though, you might as well wave good-bye.
So, this race with the '05 GT sounds about right. I know there are plenty of guys who wanted IRS to come standard on the new cars, but in a straight line race, the solid rear is better. Not saying that matters much to those who don't race their cars this way, but it is most likely a big part in why that '05 kept up with that Cobra in the beginning. He was able to fully step on it earlier than the Cobra driver. We will see soon enough however.

After driving a 03 Cobra, I must say, if it can keep up with it in 2nd (its a monster) and a bit of 3rd (my fav. gear) I'm pretty happy.

From a 25 mph roll, you wouldn't be in second. If you were racing, you would still be in first. And, in a '03-'04 Cobra you would still have to baby it a little at that speed in first. At around 35-40mph, you could completely nail it. In the '05 GT, you could nail it right from 25mph.
I am hoping the '05 GT is quick too, but by the second to third gear shift a '03-'04 Cobra will be well ahead, and pulling further away i think. Like i said though, we will have these answers soon enough. Only a few more weeks.

"Mainly because their IRS has to be babied during take-off with a engine with that much torque."
03 Cobra: IRS, 390 lb-ft torue, 4.6 seconds
Dodge Viper: IRS, 525 lb-ft torque, 3.9 seconds
Pontiac GTO: IRS, 365 lb-ft torque, 5.4 seconds
This combined with the fact that the two stangs started from a 25mph roll, I think that the suspension can be factored out of the situation.
Still nice to hear that the mustang has some cojones, though

I agree.
Also, I'm assuming that driving down the road the Cobra and 05 were both in second. I doubt either driver downshifted to first at 25mph. I slammed down the gas in the 03 Cobra in 2nd at about that speed. The pickup and traction is Juuuussstt fine.

I'll tell you guys this. That 05 vert mule I followed for over 50 miles (this was just before I joined the site, with that video of the broad yelling at me) on I-75 back in late March (the SAME lady that yelled at me, was the one driving the vert mule).. she kept up very well.
I have a V6 (no kidding haha) with really no engine mods, she was in what I believed to be a vert V6 and she was going pretty good. We hit speeds of 80+ on the highway... which isn't that much of a shock around here But I was surprised at the rate of speed she was going and how she was driving. She was also talled by a huge Ford Van and a yellow Mazda 6.
