what type of gas do you guys recomend? regular or premium, 2000 mustang gt with a BBK air intake and aftermarket headers and exhust

I use 93 but that's what my car was tuned for

 

I would just use regular unless your car is tuned for 93.

 

regular is just fine. Once you start getting a tune, you can run whatever you like.

 

The car was set up for regular cause the compression ratio is low enough now even if your car is "tuned" for it really doesn't matter unless you increase your compression ratio

 

Compression ratio isn't the only thing that matters when it comes to what kind of gas you can run on a tuned car.

 

Just run 93 that way you don't have to be concerned about it.

 

So what else is there to take into consideration?? I'm curious

 

When you change the timing around you will need to compensate with a higher octane. If you don't it will cause detonation, which can destroy an engine fairly quick.

Normally a tune changes the fuel, timing, and possibly more. However, I have heard that the timing is mainly changed up top and as long as you don't go WOT and really get on it you can run a lower octane.

 

i think im just gonna run 93 to be safe, with all of the aftermarket parts in it, and with 153k miles, the last thing i need is to screw up the motor.

 

Run regular unless your car is tuned. 93 isn't gonna do any good without a tune even with your mods. You're safer choice is to use regular until you get a tune

Doubt it. Seems like a tune would be a good selling point and the person may have even offered to sell you the tuner if they had it. But if the person decided to keep the tuner, they have to return the vehicle to the stock tune in order to un-marry the tuner to use the tuner on another vehicle. I mean it's possible you have a tune but pretty unlikely. Also you don't have any mods that would require a tune. All those mods work fine without a tune.

 

Also if they person that sold it to you had a tune that required 93 octane it seems like they would have mentioned that to you. I'd play it safe and put in regular gas. That's your best choice IMO

the cold air intake makes it stall out occasionally, i guess the fuel to air ratio is off or something idk, but ive noticed that it occures far less with 93 than 87

 

Are you sure it's the CAI and not a vacuum leak
